Nikkor 3.5 cm 2.5 lens hood

I have a 3.5cm 2.5 nikkor in s-mount. Anyone know what the filter thread size is on this lens and what type of shade I might get to work on it? I am using it on an M8 and will be needing to install a cut filter.

Also have a LTM version of this lens which is quite a bit smaller, anyone know the filter size and hood options for this lens?
On the ltm version the focus lever seems to bind about 1/4 inch before reaching infinity lock. Anyone experienced this problem? Works fine off the camera and on my M3

35mm. F/2.5 is 43 mm thread

Is your LTM version fitted with an infinity lock? I suspect so in which case the thread is 34.5mm or series VI filters, neither of which AFAIK are available for the M8 IR/UV cut.
36mm push on will fit but again availability in IR/UV ??

The Leica SOOGZ is a Leitz adapter that will clamp on the lens and allow 39mm filters. Not a cheap or easy bit to find usually runs £50/60 and upwards. Advantage is 39mm is a std Leica IR/UV filter.

For the Nikon fit any 43mm China made screw in hood will be fine but i find the lens is recessed sufficiently without, and I'm an obsessive hood user.

This will also take 39mm filters I think, but check, again pricey around £100.

Watch out when screwing in modern accessories into that old lens (hoods, filters, adapters, whatnot) as the thread pitch is slightly different and the modern bits can seize into the old threads if you tighten them down too much.

Modern 0.75 threads pitch whatnots on old lenses are of no risk. Worst case, they don't screw in full. Depends on the pitch manufacturing tolerances.

It's the contrary which is molto pericoloso (old 0.5 threads pitch whatnots on modern lenses).

The amount of thread that "works" does seem to vary from "well in no problems" to "so little it's in danger of dropping off". It really is suck it and see.😱

Actually I have found that the less expensive chinese threaded hood seem to work best because the threads are softer. After a few times of threading them on and off they start to mate to the older thread pitch and work better.

Forgot that bit.
Adapters vary, even between cameras. You will be using one with the infinity cut-out?
I have seen reported issues of the M8 frame lever binding on some infinity lock lenses, not that is it?
Voigtlander adapters may or may not work depending on the version and the lens for example, see here:

Another question: The s-mount version has its aperture ring on the filter thread. If I mount a lens hood how would I adjust the f-stop, turn the hood? Would the hood be always be unscrewing?

There are/were some 34mm UV/IR cut filters available from B+W. It might be feasible to wrap a bit of tape around the threads and screw it into your LTM lens with the 34.5mm threads. (This just occurred to me -- I'll have to try it myself.)

Well yes but the f stop range of movement is very limited and moves back and forward over a small arc. I have used filters and it actually helps adjust the stop 😱

The 3.5mm 2.5 ltm nikkor has been mounted on 2 adapters, one a Leica adapter. As the focus lever approaches infinity lock the lever binds. Nothing interfering with the focus tab on the outside of the camera. It is something inside the camera but I don't know what. It works perfectly on my M3.

I don't know whether they have any left, but Cameraquest has/had shallow, metal, 43 mm screw-in hoods that take up very little space. I have them on two Nikon RF lenses and they're very good. And as they're cylindrical, they are easy to cap if needed. Another good source for odd filter ring sizes in my experience is Fedka...TW

On my S mount Nikkor 3.5/2.5 I use the generic 43mm vented hood with no problems. I screw it on fairly snug and turn the hood to change the aperture. I have had no problems with it unscrewing when in use or the threads binding up.
