Hi all,
I have to ask you guy's a question, I received this lens
today, but there's a problem with the aperture ring it turn's
stiff and if I look at the side of the lens the top ring it kinda
slopes down like there's a dent like it got a bang in it's past.
Is this lens worth keeping and getting it fixed, the lens has
less scratches in it than my chrome one and it is the later
black version. I also can't put on Filters or a hood but it
has the original front and rear cap. What do you guy's
think, is it worth keeping. Oh one more thing it focuses
real smooth.

How bad is the bash? How much did you pay for the lens? keeping in mind THEY DON'T MAKE 'EM ANYMORE...save the patient.

Seriously, if the aperture ring is only sticky, but works, and the glass is great, then have it repaired. The black lenses were aluminum, usually (later ones were) rather than the heavy brass that was chromed. Mine have a steel ring/tube for the aperture dial.

Given the right gear, a repair shop may be able to bend out the dent without having to dismantle the entire rig.

Have you handled S-mount 35s before? some of the older ones are a bit arthritic (like myself) and need a bit of exercise before they loosen up (any coffee, tea, beer should be poured into you, not the lens, for the "loosening up")-alfredian

Yes, my chrome one smooth really nice, but the front glass is scratched
up a bit from use. I wonder if the threads in the lenses can be switched
I paid $250.00 for the lens and the glass is pretty clear and the focusing
is smooth as well.

Provide clickstops for the aperture ,

The rim is usually bent if the lens is dropped .
I would return it and find a better one for a bit more .
It's not a rare lens so another one will come along .
You could try to get a price reduction from the seller ,
However the lens will be hard to resell if you ever need to .

No. The lens must be taken apart from the rear and operations must be done one after another in the proper order.

Thank you, I decided to send it back, bad filter thread and the dent. I'll
wait for a another one. Isn't there anything on line about repairing these
guy's.
