Nikkor 50/1.4 and flare

On a hood for the 50/1.4, I've had very good luck over the years with B+W's collapsible rubber hood mounted to a 43mm skylight or UV haze filter. Available from B&H photo in New York somewhere between $20 and $30. It's a very manageable size that complements and camera and lens, and it folds into a thick ring around the end of the lens for carrying in the camera bag. Only downside is that, being rubber, it will wear out after a year or two of regular use. If you're comfortable messing around with basic precision tools, you can also swap out the skylight filter glass with the filter glass from your new MC filter. I've done that to give the hood yellow filters for black-and-white work.

Hoods: I have the Canon Series VI 50/35 hood that came with the 50 & 35 lenses I originally bought. I also have the heavystar vented hood because it looks cool. 😎 I experimented with the Series VI hood and stacking a filter and 43mm to Series VI rings to see how far I could extend the hood before it cut off the corners. That roll of film is still in my briefcase. I must get it processed. The last time I looked at B&H's inventory, the B+W hood didn't mention having a filter incorporated. I'll look again. The reversible Olympus hood sounds good. On the other hand, I don't need another ebay quest. Those can get out of hand. 😀
