Hi, I just got a nikkor 5cm 1.4 in LTM and notice that the numbers on the focus scale go to 1.5 feet. the lens doesn't turn that far, it stops at about 3 feet.

thoughts?

it happens on and off of my canon p.

thanks!

Interesting. On my VI-T and M5s, the rangefinder stops working at about 2.6' and the lens focuses all the way to 18". Maybe somebody "fixed" it once upon a time?

Great lens. Enjoy.

Try pushing a little harder. If it doesn't work:

Underneath the infinity lock, there is a bracket with two screws. Take that bracket off. It pushes down a ball bearing into the focusing helix that results in the normal bump when going below 1m. Try without the bracket.

Roland.

My HC 2/5cm was a bit stuck when I got it. It just needed an extra nudge the first time. Now works fine. Good luck and congrats on a great lens.

As mentioned, there is a "bump" along the way. That is the point where most LTM cameras would lose the RF coupling. Some go farther, such as the Canon P. Give it a try.

The Collapsible Nikkor 5cm F2 does not focus closer than 3ft. The Rigid 5cm F1.4 and 5cm F2 in LTM close-focus.

Brian, do you know if these lenses can be modified to be RF coupled down to 0.7m or less for M bodies?

BTW, I also noticed that the Super-Angulon 21/3.4 focuses down to about 0.4m, but not RF coupled below about 0.6m.

As Roland stated, he has done this for his Nikkor 5cm F1.4. I find that the Canon P and Zorki 3M can focus down to about 0.8m with my modified J-3.

The threads on the LTM mount normally block the RF wheel from moving into the body of the lens and following the RF cam. Filing off the threads allows closer focus.

I showed that in the other thread I thought. No difference from 1m. With the close focus ability, the Nikkors were optimized for this, IMO.
