Nikkor LTM Nikkor HC 50mm F2... Wow, I am impressed

Nikkor M39 screw mount lenses
The Nikkor with its close up is great for instance in a museum, like here in Gouda, NL.
Both full opening and close range

This is a detail of a 19th C picture, I wanted to capture the way the masts were depicted.

It helps a lot that this lens seems to be optimised for full opening used in close focus

Anybody knows whether the LTM and SLR versions of 50/2 HC has similar optical formular and/or characteristic? Thanks.
They are very different. The shortest focal length SLR lens to share any formulation is the 8.5cm Nikkor but it was still changed drastically. The one that is really similar is the 10.5cm f/2.5 Nikkor. I think this is the P version. Nikon saw that only a minor tweak was necessary to allow the rear element to clear the SLR mirror so the design between the early 105mm (or 10.5cm whichever you call them) RF and SLR lenses is very similar.

I love both the Nikkor f2 and f1.4 (and would love to someday try the early 1.5 version).

I've found both Nikkors nearly indistinguishable at the same f stops. The 1.4 of course has a very special glow wide open that the f2 just hints at.

I even made a group for these lenses on flickr, if you're interested in seeing more samples: https://www.flickr.com/groups/nikkorsc-rf/pool/with/38771444400/ Please join and post BTW!

I once did a side-by-side test (on film) of the two lenses at middle apertures (f4-f11). While there were slight differences, I couldn't say one was better than the other, which is why I kept the 1.4. I'll see if I can dig up the scans and post them if I find them.

This thread convinced me I needed yet another 50mm Sonnar :-S Managed to pick one up on eBay, though perhaps not the bargain that attracted others here. I've ran a few rolls of film through and so far, really love the results. Unlike the Zeiss Sonnar 1,5/50, I've yet to experience any focus shift. For an old lens it seems very sharp, but also has tons of character. Probably not the best shots to demonstarte these attributes, but these from a roll of Retro 400s taken over the weekend.

Never checked focus shift with mine, but it is easily check at infinity, 20 and 10 feet, and see how much you need to compensate.

Yah, that's how I found it at the thrift store when I bought it late last year. The camera had some corrosion on it, but cleaned up well. I assume that combination is how it was bought because I don't think it had been used in some time.

I love this combination. I use it more than my M3 and collapsible Summicron.

I love the build quality and size of this lens. I haven't tested it out much on my M240. But have shot 2 different rolls using it. Need to develop those and see the results. In the meantime i will make an effort to use it on digital for some instant images to show. Definitely one of my favorite lenses to use right now.

Love the look this lens produces... Question for the knowledgeable among us - Is this lens the same optical formula as the F-mount 50mm f2 nikkor? Or similar?
