Hi All
I managed to acquire one of these lenses recently and need the front and rear caps for it. I realise the originals are on the rare side and am happy to get a generic version if I cannot procure one. What size do I need for the front and rear lens cap.
Also anyone have any ideas on hoods for these lenses?
Thanks
Raj

LTM: 43mm front cap. any ltm rear should work.
S-mount - 43mm front. rear nikon-s mounts are not cheap, but a contax should work.

The internal threading front mount for the 5cm f1.4 is the same for all versions: 43mm as noted. The external might be 46mm for a slip-on cap. But note that early 50s have a thinner front rim than the later ones, so whether a slip-on cap fits tightly is a guess. The rear cap needs to be for the internal bayonet. Early Nikon metal normal caps appear to be quite rare. The later plastic ones show up on ebay frequently and work quite well in my experience. Or, as noted, a Contax cap will work. Hope this additional information is helpful. WES LODER

For the rear mount, you can raid a medicine cabinet or pantry and usually can find a few old plastic bottle lids that work.

Be careful of mounting filters on the Nikon 5cm f/1.4, most filters have the wrong thread pitch.

Yes. Thats true. Just don't screw in the filter all the way and you should be fine. I use a regular B+W UV filter this way and haven 't had a problem

"There are rear caps, from contax and Nikon, they are rare and expensive. Nikon made both plastic and metal rear caps, the metal ones are VERY rare and bring a min of $100."

No kidding, I paid $140 for mine.

As others have posted, original rear caps for Nikon RF mount (& Contax mount for that matter) internal mount 50s are hard to find. There are pricey (but less expensive than original) metal rear caps for Nikon/Contax RF internal mount 50s that are made in Japan & sold in big camera stores like Yodobashi, etc. Assuming you're not in Japan, I would try contacting Dirk at Japan Exposures (http://www.japanexposures.com/shop/ ) or Bellamy at Japan Camera Hunter (http://japancamerahunter.com/ ) to grab 1 for you.

As far as hoods, I would recommend you try out a tilted (slightly less intrusion in the VF) screw-in 43mm vented hood from heavystar, etc. on eBay.
