Nikkor O 2.1cm on M9?

Has anyone used the 2.1cm Nikkor O on the M9? Either F mount or the
Nikon S mount on an adapter?

I'm wondering how badly it vignettes as compared to the Super Angulon
f/3.4. The SA is bad but definitely correctable with Cornerfix or used
in B&W (like I believe it's supposed to be used.)

I'd appreciate any feedback if anyone has used the Nikon lens on their
digital M.

Thanks all,
Phil Forrest

Not sure about the F-mount version, but my S-mount version couldn't be mounted via adapter on a Sony Nex or any Micro 4/3 cameras that I tried. The rear element is too large and extends too far back.

I'm thinking that both versions could be used on the M9 because the Super Angulon as well as the Jupiter-12 both work fine. As long as the rear element or lens shroud doesn't contact the shutter blades, everything should be good to go.

I'm pretty sure the rear element on the Nikkor-O 2.1cm protrudes further back than a Super Angulon. But still might work. If you try it, let us know how you go.

Jon,
You have the Nikon S mount version?
Would it be possible for you to measure from the rear of the external bayonet flange to the end of the rear element shroud?
I don't have a lens to measure, nor do I know anyone with one and I'm thinking a simple measurement could save me several hundred dollars.
Thanks so much for even considering taking this measurement!

Thanks Vick. The mir.com page doesn't have the dimension of the depth of the rear element from the flange to the back of the lens element. As a 2.1cm Biogon design, it should be extremely close in optical dimension to the Super Angulon but at infinity the shroud around the rear element is the wild card here. 3mm deeper than the Super Angulon will touch the shutter blades.

Jon is right , the Nikkor-O 2.1cm protrudes too far back, and will damage the Leica. I have the F-mount 2.1 cm, and tried to mount it on my Leica MP using an Nikon-F to Leica-M adapter that Gandy used to sell. It bumps against the shutter. I would NOT recommend for anyone to try this setup.

Thanks! That's what I needed to know.

I do not have a Nikkor 21mm, but my Rokkor 21mm protrudes too far back to be used on the EP-2. (Apples and Oranges maybe)

For what it's worth, I have mounted the Canon RF 19mm LTM (with M-adapter) to the M9. It mounts, but the color shift is even more aggravated that the SA 21mm that is is not even usable.

The Canon RF 19mm mounts and works perfectly on the MP.

But for the F-mount, you need to lock the F/F2 mirror in the up position before mounting the lens. On the Leica M, I too was surprised that it extended that far back, especially when the Gandy adapter itself is almost 20mm thick.

Would this lens work well on an M8, or is the problem the same as with the M9?

It is confusing why people are buying the F-M adapter if such a lens will damage M cameras.

This conclusion doesn't seem to match the technical data. If the lens will work without damaging a Nikon slurs curtains it shouldn't interfere with a Leica, does the lens you tried have a protective collar surrounding the very rear of the lens element? This maybe the issue.

Subjectively someone may argue the point that the leicas shutter is located closer to the mount in a leica than a Nikon? Unfortunately I've confirmed with my leica md this is not the case either. There is actually less distant between the film and shutter in a leica.

This is very conflicting to the consensus of this post.
I've witnessed this lens used on a leica m4-p but the owner would not reveal his secret. I've also located a lens claimed to be adapted to leica m, a more detailed look shows its just a typical kipon adapter.

So can anyone say 100% if this is true for all leica bodies!?

Since you bumped this thread, I'll link to the other thread that was newer and has some relevant information later in the page:

My F-mount 2.1cm with F-S adapter + Amedeo adapter works fine on my M6 and M9, but doesn't meter properly. On the M9 the color shift and vignetting is horrendous and in my opinion isn't a useful lens on digital, even if made b&w (it also smears in the corners). There is an example in the linked thread. If you really want a tiny 21/4 lens, the 21/4 CV Skopar has much less color shift / vignetting and is cheaper to boot at the moment.

I have the CV 21/4 in S mount, and I am told that it does not fit the M9 with the Amedeo adapter.

Right, I mean the regular LTM or M mount versions, but of course I took a file to my S-mount lens and made it work fine. If you have access to a lathe it shouldn't be hard at all to modify. Just be careful... :)
