Jon's latest sale had prompted me to check my lens' serial number and thought about starting a registry.
My Millennium is 202585.

Zen-Shooter,
Who is Jon and why has his sale prompted you and others to list the serial numbers of this lens? I have one and maybe I should follow suit. Just want to know why.
Regards,
Charlie

Jon is a wonderful friend who just happened to set me up with my S3 2000...and I am lovin' it!
Thanks for the kind words, Dave
Akira, my lens is 203332 and the one I just sold in the RFF classifieds is 207412. The highest s/n I've seen in person is 211236.

Zen-shooter said:Jon's recent Millennium sales showed S/N in the upper range of the 5,000 or so units produced. In fact in Robert Rotoloni's latest Nikon book, the number appears to be over 5,000 (see page 272).
Bob's book does not mention serial numbers other than the fact that first one seen in the literature in late 1999 was numbered 150031 but quickly changed over to 20xxxx
I have a feeling those 150xxx lenses were pre-production numbers---> Prototypes
The "At least over 5000" number means just that---> at least.
We know there are around 8000 Chrome S3 and another 2000 Black cameras re-issued, all came with lenses, so the number must be 10,000

Unusual serial number and lens
Can anyone throw some light on this lens Nikkor-s 50mm f1.4 46mm filter thread SERIAL NUMBER 444063 . The serial number does not seem to fit any new or old series plus its 46mm and not 43mm filter thread.

Am I the one to beat
Mine here is 211361, from a S3 black set. Comparing it to another early serial number I couldn't see any difference in the coatings. These lenses like the cameras they came with are sure beautifully finished, and the aperture is smooth with positive defined stops. just as I like.

This does not make sense, the Nikkor-S 5cm f=1.4 did not have a 46mm filter thread.
444063 is way out of range of the last of the 5cm f1.4s too, the last of them produced were 41xxxx
Even the "Olympic" version did not have a 46mm diameter and those started from 140001
Is the lens marked as 50mm or 5cm?

Thanks for your interest in this lens Kiu. I have been trying to research it for some time now and it always ends up in a dead end. The lens is most definetley 46mm filter thread and is marked 50mm not 5cm and there is no red "c" after the Nikkor-S inscription.NIKON KIU said:This does not make sense, the Nikkor-S 5cm f=1.4 did not have a 46mm filter thread.
