I know that this is only tangentially related. But what rear lens cap does everyone recommend for their Nikkor Millennium?

Does the nobbysparrow rear lens cap work?

No idea about the nobbysparrow caps as I've never used any, but the Hansa cap works just fine. If you can find them. They're discontinued now.

I ordered some spares from Cosina of the rear cap (pictured below) that came with the limited production S-mount Zeiss Sonnar 50/1.5. The cap is made of aluminium and has a felt lining so it stays firmly on the lens. No idea if Cosina/Zeiss has any of these left though.

Are you zeissman on eBay?

Wow, the caps in those photos are perfect. These must be the venerable Hansa caps about which I have heard so much.

I'm glad to hear that someone else has tried to order additional rear caps from Cosina for the reissued 50mm F1.5 Zeiss Sonnar. From what I have heard, that is the very best rear cap for internal mount lenses.

The rear cap shown in the photos above isn't a Hansa cap, its the Zeiss Sonnar rear cap from Cosina. I ordered and received several extras. The Hansa cap is not felt lined.

I didn't have a part number. I just asked a local shop to try and order some rear caps for the S-mount Zeiss Sonnar 50mm F1.5 lens that Cosina/Zeiss released in 2008, and they were successful.

Thank you for the clarification. I don't know why, but I envisioned the Cosina-Zeiss caps as being black. Also, I should have read your previous comment more closely.

Do you recall if there was a specific part # or order # associated with the Cosina-Zeiss rear cap? Or would it (hypothetically) be sufficient just to ask for the rear cap for the 50mm F1.5 Sonnar in vntage Contax rangefinder mount?

The Cosina-Zeiss cap is of course the exact copy of the original #727 Zeiss-Ikon (Stuttgart) cap from the 1950's.

Same shape, same material (alu), same silver finish, same felt lining. No Zeiss logo though.

As an aside, it seems that the prewar Zeiss-Ikon cap for their various models of 5cm lenses in Contax mount was made of black bakelite. Never saw any in the flesh - most have now got lost or broken.
