Well, there was one, I bid over $600, but someone "sniped" it away from me at the last minute, I hope he`s a Photographer and not a collector, kinda a shame if it becomes a China Cabinet Princess

The lens would have done a whole lot more good in my hands.......I`m sure the lens would have shot naked Retro PinUp models pretty well 😀

I have a serious question for Nikkor guys out there, is there anyone out there who has one to lend me for a LENS TEST SHOOT? Shooting on a "Half Race"Leica IIIC

I`m sure that no one`s worked with one shooting pretty gals since about 1955 🙁

Any help in working out a serious test would be greatly appreciated, I really want to SEE what this lens does, compared to the contemporary era lenses from Canon and Leitz

Oh!!! 1.5, yes, that is a different duck. At first I was reading 1.4 and I thought you were loosing it, but for a 1.5 that would be a good find.

How much different is the 1.5 Nikkor from the Canon? I think the 1.5 Canon is the last lens which was designed by Nikon before Canon started their own lens building. Or perhaps it was the first Canon designed lens, but my thoughts have always been that it is the last Canon lens with heritage back to Nikon.

Well, I`m also still looking for a decent f1.4 Nikkor as well, but what I`ve seen or have been offered is junk or pretty beat up for dumb money, the Canon f1.5 is RARER and far less produced than the Nikkor 1.4 was, thought their signatures are almost the same, the Canon is most likely the "better" lens away

But, I really want to see what the Nikkor f1.5 does, while I`m sure no one`s even bothered using one in the past 35 years......

You don't see too many 1.5s in Nikon Mount either but they are more common than LTM. I stumbled onto a Nikkor 105/2.5 in Contax mount. I bid, not to win, but I did, so the lens is on the way to me. I am glad I have a Contax IIa to mount it on. Interesting, in LTM or Nikon mount the 105 would have sold for at least $100 more. Maybe you picking up a user S2 for $200ish is worth the effort if the 1.5 Nikkor will sell for much less than it will as an LTM lens.

The 105 I think would be pretty neat to use, I have`nt seen one in LTM offered anywhere for a while, I do want to complete my Nikkor "pallet" for my Leica`s soon.....but I`m more of a 50mm "shooter" then anything, else, that`s why I mentioned the f1.5 and f1.4 (I think with the f1.4 I`ll close the door with the Nikkor LTM`s unless I can find a wide angle one in the future?) * SEE BELOW*)

I`m not really using a wide angle at present, (could be helpful at the car shows) so the f1.8 35mm Nikkor would be interesting, but that lens is for as much as I`ve seen is very pricey in LTM

I have a really fine f2.0 85mm I bought from an estate here in Fla. and I still have yet to get that lens going, I noticed some severe rangefinder "flare" with the lens on my IIIC with the hood on etc. (it might be a better lens on my M6 in the long run) I just haven`t had the use for a portrait lens in my work lately, but I have a few shoots coming up this weekend, so it`s going to get it`s first try

I shoot/use the f2.0 50mm Nikkor alot, even more than the Elmar`s and Summitar`s that were originally on my IIIC`s, *mine is well worn and has cleaning marks (suffers a slight fare in extreme lighting) I would like a minty one someday......while I`ll REALLY like that lens

Geeeze but, whoever said that Nikkor`s in LTM were "reasonable priced" lenses has`nt looked at them for the past 15 years!!!!

Nikkors in LTM are reasonably priced compared to M-mount leica lenses, but usually much more expensive than similar Canon lenses. I recently bought an LTM 35/1.8 Nikkor on eBay for $600. This is a little cheaper than average IMO, but a lot more money than a Canon 35/1.8. I want to compare the two to see which one I like better. I imagine that the differences will be small, but figuring out what the differences are will be fun.

If you want a really interesting look, keep your eye out for a Leotax with a 50mm f1.5 Simlar lens.

The lens and/or Leotax with one on it comes up on eBay every once in a while.

It's a HEAVY, overbuilt lens made by the company which would make Topcon lenses, Tokyo Kogaku.

Not quite a Sonnar formula, but something unique, it makes really interesting results. Sort of "dreamy" but still sharp wide open, by the time you stop it down to f4 or so it's razor sharp and contrasty, but it produces a hard to describe "retro" look.

I'll take some shots with the R-D1 with it later this week if you want to see it.

PS: I like your 1950's look girly photos. Some of them remind me of those "racy" slide sets sold in the back of men's magazines.

Yes, you're right about the Leotax body, but the Simlar lenses were made for Leotax by Tokyo Kogaku. (which also was known as Tokyo Optical)

If you bide your time, you can luck out. I got a Leotax body with a pristine Simlar f1.5 for under $300 on eBay a few months ago. (poorly listed with poor photos)

I then sold my less pristine Simlar alone for $675.

Yes, I think I`ll go Canon f1.8 35mm when the time comes for that....

I want to see that Nikkor vs Canon f1.8 test done, that was one of the main reasons I wanted the Nikkor f1.5 to put it up against the Canon, Summarit, Xenon and Nokton for performance reasons, it`s too bad that it`s been pushed out of reality by it`s rarity and price - well I`ll pay $600 for a good one like the one was on ebay anytime, so someone offer me one 😀

Yes, I`ve been reffered to the f1.5 Simlar before, I think that`s one for down the road for me, while I`m a big fan of fast 50`s 🙂

Please shoot some work with the Simlar and the R-D1 can`t wait to see it

I checked on Ebay and Kevin Cameras has a Nikkor 50/1.5 in ltm with with case and cap for $2950. It appears that $600 may have been quite a buy for the Nikkor 50/1.5. On the other hand, for actual use rather than for collecting, I assume that the Nikkor 50/1.4 ltm is in many ways a better lens. It is certainly less expensive.

A lens on ebay may have no similarity to any lens in Kevin's stock, as well.

There are bargains on ebay, but there are also dogs...that's the risk one takes.

I could`nt have said it better myself........most of the time you can cut his prices in half or even take 25% in consideration, the last f1.5 I saw sold was $1,500 or something like that, (European Auction) still way too much for what it is, but then again most exotic lenses are overpriced and not worth what they are asking for them in my opinion, collectors can afford it without question

I really would have liked to see what that Nikkor lens can do, I can presume that as stated before the f1.4 is the better lens, but they too are overrated, the f1.5 Canon works amazingly well for it`s artistic merits and style
