Does anyone else have both a 50mm 1.4d and the 1.8d?
I'm not sure if I have a good 1.8 or a bad 1.4 as the 1.8 seems to be a bit better wide open considering the 1.4 is more than double the price I was expecting a bit more!
Anyone else found this?
Thanks.

I own the 1.8 and have shot the 1.4. The 1.8 is a better lens for much less money.

I have the 1.8D only and it is my first AF prime lens because it was really affordable.
It's a great lens.

I had the 50mm f1.4D for years and it never impressed me.
I too prefer the 50mm 1.8d to the 1.4d.

Try the 1.8G. That's a great lens. Better than the 1.8d.

I did think about that as I can get a new 1.8g for the price of a secondhand 1.4d, I liked the d lenses because of the aperture ring works well with my df but I recently bought a 35 1.8g and actually using the back dial for the aperture works really well.

I picked up a 1.8 G because everything I saw showed it to be better than the 1.4. Money was not the issue.
Same with the 1.8 D.

I would use the back dial on your DF, because while the D series may have an aperture ring, they are miserable to use. So plasticky and baulky in feeling, nothing like an aperture ring on an old school Nikon AIS lens, or any Voigtlander or Leica lens.

I use both, but the D is so small and has some cool flair wide open.
