Am I right that the only adapters for this are the $250+ ones? Nothing cheaper?

You could buy one on eBay, claim that there's something wrong with it, and send back a rotten egg in a box after making a PayPal SNAD dispute.
This way, you could keep it and get an adapter for free. Hey, if the guy ships it to you from Brazil or wherever he is without signature confirmation, you could just say you never received it and get it for free without shipping back anything.

you could get a screw mount version and use a lsm-M bayonet adapter, or for the nikon mount you will need a orion type couple with the lsm - m bayonet adapter,

And no you don't have to spend $250+ on the adapter. In my experience the VC adapters are just fine @ $55.
If you bought a Nikon S-mount lens, you need an S-Mount to M-Mount adapter, that will run $250. It would be better to sell the lens and buy one in LTM.
If you bought the LTM lens, you just need a standard M-Mount adapter.
If you bought the LTM lens, you just need a standard M-Mount adapter.

I think Brian is again spot on. If you have an Internal-S mount, flipping it for a LTM mount is a much more logical approach.
Another equally logical approach is to give up a Leica and pick up an S3 or an S2. They are just as good and you do not need an adapter.

VC = Voigtlander Cosina (probably should be Cosina Voigtlander). Cosina is the Japanese company that makes the current Bessa RF cameras & LTM & M mount lenses using the Voigtlander name, as opposed to the original German Voigtlander company that went out of business (after begin absorbed by Zeiss Ikon) in the early '70s.

I ordered some LTM to M adapters from Cambridge Camera and they were not fitting correctly. The F stops came out on the bottom of the lens and not the top so one could read them when making the changes. They also inserted into my M6 and were grinding as they clicked in place. I called and told them I was sending them back and Moty said okay send them back. I packed them (2) in a padded envelope and when I got to UPS, they put the package in a box to protect them better and have a delivered confirmation.
When I didn't hear from Cambridge Camera, I called them and Moty had the nerve to tell me that he only received one of the adapters and not two. He said he didn't need my $40 and only gave me credit for (1) of the adapters. I guess I learned my lesson dealing with NY camera dealers. They will try and take advantage of you if they can. Maybay next time I go to NYC I will look him up.
Be very careful in dealing with Cambridge.
I ordered two adapters from CameraQuest and they fit beautifully and work will with my Nikkor 50f1.4.

Cambridge Camera had so many complaints against it that Popular Photography refused to carry them as an advertiser. Cambridge advertised with them for decades, until one edition where the magazine announced they were dropping them.
I did not realize that anyone continued to buy from them.
I have had good luck with other New York based stores, including Adorama and B&H Photo. Adorama could not fill an order for "new old stock" Nikon F2 screens, and issued a credit without being prodded. I knew they were on back-order, and asked to wait. B&H left an item out of an order, took one phone call to correct, and the item was shipped within the week at no extra charge.
