I am looking for the originalCD software download for scanning that Nikon supplied with this scanner. Mine has disappeared and after having an issue lost it on my PC. I am having issues with Viuescan and want my old trusted Nikon app back.
If someone could burn me the CD, I will gladly pay all expenses.

No you can not. It was stopped by them ages ago, I even phoned up and was told TOUGH LUCK !!!
 
Well it says it will only operate with Vista. I have one PC with Windows XP and one with Windows 10.
I am anything but computer savvy, so when I thought you had given me an early Christmas present, it soon went into sadness.
Do you know if there is anything out there that would be downloadable for those two systems.
I really appreciate your time trying to help me, it’s extremely kind of you all. At 61 I am a beginning geriatric.........
 
Might want to look into finding an old computer for your dedicated scanner PC. I've got an old POWERMAC G4 from 2004 that is my dedicated scanner computer (not really good for much else), because it can still run the old Nikon Scan software on it. The last models of these scanners were discontinued around 2009, which is centuries ago in modern computer time, so it's really hard to get any of the old Nikon software to work on modern machines.

Timmy Joe, I think you have solved it. You lovely tinker you. I am going to try downloading this on Windows 10 first. Brilliant stuff old bean.......or young bean......
 
Nikon Scan 4 will work on any Windows system (even Windows 10 64bit). At worst you will have to download and replace 2 files (and .inf and .cat file). A simple google search should get you started...

Go to the link I posted earlier. That is the version for before Vista only....

Well Windows 10 will not run it, it downloads the file but then nothing. So I will have a crack at the Windows XP machine later on......
 
Nikon Scan 4 runs fine on Windows 10. After you download and extract the file, find the setup.exe file, right click on it and run it through the Compatibility Wizard.
The driver is another matter. If you have Vuescan installed, Nikon Scan will use the driver from Vuescan, but you need to make sure that during the Nikon Scan install you uncheck the Nikon driver.
 
i'm running Nikon Scan 4 on my Win7 virtual machine (2017 MBP). Downloaded the software online, ran a quick patch, no issues...
 
Nikon Scan for Vista should work fine on Windows XP; I used it that way years ago with no problems.


That said, Nikon scan was crap; it crashed constantly and was slow. I bought Vuescan 16 years ago and never touched Nikon Scan again.
 
Well I found my Nikon 3.1 scanner software download CD and got it up and running on the Windows XP machine. Tried downloading it onto the Windows 10 machine but it comes up telling me not possible. So I need to find someone who can get it on there for me as it should be downloadable.
I do not see how people like Vuescan with this machine, the Nikon software is quicker and better quality, why I have trouble with it I am not sure but I was popping out superb files within ten minutes of getting the Nikon software up and running.
My scanner arrived on a wooden pallet and it simply loves the Nikon scans at 20x20 inches.
 
NikonScan4 works fine on Win7 and probably Win10, you just have to modify the drivers to add flags for those operating system.
 
i prefer Nikon Scan 4 over Vuescan as well. It does take a little time to figure everything out (it's not all very obvious), but once you do, it's quick and produces great results. The software runs really well on Win7.

Coolscan 400o & NikonScan WILL work under window 10. Just read #21 of the following post:

A few things to do but it will work just fine in win 10.
