Hmmm... when you look at 100% you see the edges on top and bottom are sharper than left and right.

deadly serious.
Edit: yes, I see the same thing. I guess they must be the edges of the film holder on the top and bottom.

You might be able to make your own substitute for the FH-3.

If I am not mistaken, you are not correctly exposing for scan if you include the black or white around the image. When you scan you see a gap at the bottom of the histogram usually because the blacks of the actual image are not as deep as the blacks around the frame. I know I prefer to use my scanner's bits as efficiently as possible.

Yea, but I set the black point as well as every other setting manully, so that doesn't gonna be a problem.

If you ever find the solution, please post it here.
I have the same problem with my 5000. (I don't really care about the black border, but don't like losing a bit of the frame top and bottom).

Okay, I just increased the space within the frames by cutting some plastic out with a cutter knife. Diffucult, but manageable. Now, through the scanning area I see enough of the ground material to rach a black border. But somehow the scanner just won't do it.
Here's a screenshot... Any idea what this grey bar at the bottom is doin there?

Got it.
The problem is, that my scanner here doesn't really take the image centered, to that I have to move the negative kinda hard. Therefore, I had to cut the hell out of the holder. But now, it works. Juhu!
