Its beginning to look like its the real deal. I guess I'm going to sell all my gear to get one! All but my 28mm f/2.8 AIS... Thank goodness too, the DX format drives me nuts.

It was a rumor for a while, now it seems to be appearing in German and french mags. I think the price was around $2500 US. Of couse its not "real" until confirmed by Nikon but thats "suppost" to happen on the 1st...

It is not official, but take a gander at the video portion of the following web page. http://www.focus-numerique.com/news_id-851.html
It is in French. So I haven't a clue of what was said.

Think again, the price given in that French link is 2.800euros, about 4500 USD!
"Someone" said that the US price would be lower, I'm hoping so.
Availability...December perhaps?

The D700 would have to be less. The D3 sells for $5000. At that price point, $500 is not a big enough difference to merit buying the lesser model. The other camera around that area is the Canon 1DmkIII at $4050, so I would think this camera would come in at $3800-4000, at least at start.
The D3 is an amazing camera. It can nearly see in the dark. Low light capabilities are amazing for a digital SLR. And also for an dSLR, very quiet and very very fast. However, it is heavy. Having that package in a smaller body would be a treat.

A friend recently came back from a workshop in Mexico City and the D700 was there for the pros to look at. I read somewhere that the price is to be US$2999.

Thats what I would be willing to pay, 1500 for my M2 and Lenses, 1000 for my D200 and lenses, maybe sell some plasma....

The real McCoy. I think it's also backwards compatible with manual focus F lenses, like the D3:

The D200 and D300 already support them very well.

The full frame is nice but I'd opt for the 100% viewfinder of the D300. I wonder if this will help lower the price on the D200 and D300? Fingers crossed.

Given the size and weight of this D700, it's still not the camera for me..
I don't see myself lugging one around for a day.. I'll stick with DX untill these FX cameras become the size/weight of a D40..

'Hear Hear' I know it's been said so many times but how hard can it be for one of the big japanese manufacturers to come up with a basic rangefinder with full frame. One of the major reasons I got into M's was the ease of portability and of course quality of images. I still love the immediacy of digital, I still use my D70 but I very rarely take it anywhere as it's just too big. Maybe the marketplace is not big enough yet. I'm waiting for the day when we can have Japanese reliability with M style portability and a Full frame sensor. A simple basic controls digital rangefinder that will accept M bayonet at planet earth prices, not planet Leica! I've no doubt that this Nikon will produce fantastic images but look at the SIZE OF IT!!!!:bang:
