Nikon D700

I'm seriously thinking about selling all my Leica (which includes two M6s, a 35 biogon, a 35 cron, and a 50 cron) gear for a D700. I've been saying all along the only digital I would think about buying would be a full frame rangefinder or a Nikon FX DSLR... now that it's come the only reason I can think of not to buy it is cost.

Well, on the bright side, if it's economically feasible to make a 3k FF dslr, then it should be equally feasible to make a 3k FF RF. Am I right?

Naw, I wouldn't bet on it. The market for a 3k DSLR is quite a bit bigger than for the RF but the cost of development is more or less the same. You might be able to cut the dev-costs in half if you don't care for all the extras of today's DSLRs but I think the difference in market size is more than tenfold.

For a forum on rangefinder cameras (still mostly using film) it's telling to see how many replies there are in this thread on a digital SLR...
