If I look at the top-view and back-view and count the "physical controls" how they call it, than this is the most complicated control layout I've ever seen on an camera.

It has less controls on top than a F4 - and less overall if the F4 is fit with the more complex of its databacks...

Now we know why the kept the body in the shadows on the videos:

It looks like some kid took a classic FM3 and just kept sticking dials and knobs on it and no one was there to tell him when to stop.

I'm not a Nikon guy. If this is Nikon-standard then it may be OK for you. I'm just accustomed to the clean Canon control layout.

It has more or less what everyone would want on a top plate without having to go to the quick menu. So I'm not sure what more or less do people want.

I looked across at my Pen (original), and then back to the photo, and was astonished at the contrasting heaps of useless or unergonomic tat Nikon have shovelled on the DF. Ftr, there isn't a single control on the top plate of the Pen.

As for the looks, well, whoever said it looked like it had swallowed an FM2 wasn't far off. The top plate looks OK size-wise, but the camera bulges out all over the place, like a bloke in a suit that's a couple of sizes too small.

and kshapero I think has it on the nail, when they suggest it's a D600 in a retro (and poorly retro - think O-Product) skin.

So thats what pure photography looks like, I quite like it but its pretty bulky it started of rumoured to be an FM then a F3 looks even chunkier than an F4. The picture above of the F4 has the Mb21 attached which makes it even bulkier looking.

Interestingly, the top plate is smaller than the dimensions of the camera body. It makes the camera top view look thinner than it is, but also crowds the top plate pretty badly.

I think I expected more simplicity. It appears they simply put a retro pentaprism on top, and gave every menu item a switch or dial. Unless it functions in some special, unannounced way, on ergonomics alone, I think I pass.

I'll stick with the M9 for Digital Fusion 😀

Agree, too much complaining, I think.

1. The top dial has the controls that will allow anyone to skip the menus. I like it.

2. A for it being "fat," think about what is there that is not in the "thin" film bodies? Preview LCD and its controls. Most of you guys can't do without it, so it's your demands that makes the camera "fat."

Don't blame Nikon for catering to what you want.

Overall, I would buy this camera than any other Nikon full-frames out there. It reminds me of Nikon FG or FA for some reason.
