i understand about lens with built-in aperture rings, Canon and Nikon abandoned those in the 80s, an aperture wheel/dial is good enough for me.
but what i described was what I envisioned this camera to be if it was meant to be a simplistic purist photography camera where all you have to worry about is the ISO, shutter speed and aperture, i would be happy even if this didn't have an LCD screen.
i never owned a nikon camera (although a Nikon F2 is in my wishlist) and this camera initially piqued my interest but not after seeing what it will look like.

seems the flash is really missing. That would be a reason to buy it...

I think it is a step in the right direction. I do wish they had put the design on a diet a few more rounds before they finalized it. I'm curious to see the viewfinder.

Haven't shot Canon DSLR's but the Nikon D4 is the most "useful" camera I've ever worked with. It's fast, got incredible High ISO, everything is easy to adjust, and it's just an incredible workhorse.
Looks like the DF took a smaller body, and tried to cram a million dials and buttons onto it, just so they could claim it has few menus. Well the menus on the D4 are arranged in a way that I can adjust it fast on the fly, and without having to put on my reading glasses to see all those tiny numbers.

Again, it's not the sound it's the feel of the shutter. No dampening and "strange." Buy blind... it's your cash. I hope you love it though... 😉

All I know is that I played with it at the EXPO that was here in NYC and it was a big clunk with no dampening. You could set the shutter to 1000th of a second and it would feel, to me, like a slow shutter speed does on a typical SLR.
I haven't heard a Nikkormat in 20 years... and I don't pay attention to the Pentax 67 when my friends are using them. Again, it's not the sound (though it is loud)... it's the feel. This is not a big deal for most people, but I mention it here because I know how finicky Leica M users can be about shutters.
