Nikon DF

Keith, I don't get it either but engraving shirts and bath towels is still trending isn't it? Isn't it? 😀

Like putting a personalized number plate on a car that costs more than the car itself.

BTW, this is already post number 1,000 on this thread. Can I now claim my free Nikon voucher ? 😀😀

Really need to see some output from the Df no matter if the subject is not that interesting, a dog or a cat maybe or some bushes in the backyard.

Gil, not trying to be a wet blanket -- just curious, but why?
We know that the image quality won't be worse than the latest Nikon technology.

What would some uninteresting pictures contribute to what we already know?

Maybe the more intuitive, faster control layout will contribute to more candid photos?🙂

Curious to see how it draws, yes we have tons of information here and elsewhere but so far haven't seen samples yet, maybe I have not searched enough. Certainly does not want to be under a wet blanket 😀

I'd like to have some answers from Phantomas to my questions about the Df's digital menus possibly overriding the top cover analog dials so that the actual camera settings, chosen through the menus, differ from what the top cover analog dials display.

Sure. There is a setting deep in the menu called "Auto-ISO", I think you know what that means. As common sense dictates, if you tell the camera "please choose ISO for me, i'm too lazy or stupid to do so" that's what it will do, very logically overriding any further settings, as it's been told. Leave that setting alone and you won't have anything overriding your top dial ISO choice.
However, there is no way to chose individual ISO values through menu (or info screen), only through the dial. If you do for some reason choose the dummy auto-ISO mode it will warn you through viewfinder and top screen.
Basically, don't touch that menu setting and ISO will remain dial-only controlled. Though I'm sure many will find this non-issue the reason to complain: "but I don't want that menu item, the camera is worthless!" :bang:

Thank you, Phantomas. This clearly denies some stupid rumors I had read on another forum about the top dials settings being possibly overriden through the menus.
No problem then.

And they do have their use, and not necessarily in a dummy way only. In the hindsight my "stupid" remark was unbased, i take it back

No need to take it back... I get what you mean. I'm comfortable with my choice and these days I can trust cameras up to 1600-3200. I think it's great to choose the shutter speed and aperture you truly want to use and let the high ISO ride up and down to compensate. One of the biggest advantages of digital for me. I guess it depends on what you're trying to accomplish.
