I bought a Nikon DL-1 on eBay but when it arrived it was too dim to use even with a new battery and cleaning of the contacts so I sent it back for a refund.. A second arrived a few weeks later with the same problem.. It was returned. I finally found another in my price range.. And you guessed it. Just like the others..
All 3 were totally useless so instead of sending this one back I decided to modify it.
I found a miniature light bulb of 6 volts and made the needed modifications to the DL-1 and found 2ea. 3 volt button cells that would fit inside a hollowed out 625 cell. This fixed the problem and makes viewing the light meter readout in my Nikon F2 readable in low light situations now..
The question now would be did Nikon really make the DL-1 that bad or do these bulbs deteriorate with age??
