Nikon F compatibility with the F2's DE-1 finder?

Is the DE-1 (plain, non-metered finder) of the Nikon F2 compatible with the Nikon F? Any first hand experiences?

Yes and 100% if you remove the "Nikon" metal nameplate in front of the viewfinder seat of the Nikon F body (two screws).

And you can also fit an F eyelevel prism to an F2 body, without any modifications.
