Can we associate Nikon F100 serial numbers to manufacturing date? Sure we can but nobody did this before (but many tried). I have read a post in that somebody asked Nikon itself with a non-informative reply.

F100 is a very good SLR with a production range between 1999 and 2006. But surprisingly, there is no available serial number list on the internet for this camera body. Do we know what is the last serial number at all? And which one is the first?

After some research I have obtained some insight into this question but far not enough to be complete. I found the following "trustable" information.

Rewind fork design was changed with serial numbers AFTER 21654XX (late 2000/early 2001) https://www.photo.net/discuss/threads/f100-serial-number-list.220897/

And I have four data provided the forums noted below

1) 2076xxx purchased new in January 2000
2) 22534xx purchesed new in march 2002
3) 22750xx purchased new in may 2004
4) 2309xxx purchased new in late 2003

1), 4) (https://www.photo.net/discuss/threads/just-bought-an-f100-trying-to-find-out-how-old-it-is.469544/)
2) (https://www.nikonians.org/forum/top...rial-numbers-that-begin-with-b-and-used-f100s)
3) (https://www.talkphotography.co.uk/t...-nikon-camera-bodies-by-serial-number.206886/)

This information is plotted in the graph below that is fitted with a line, assuming constant production rate (non-accurate numbers are represented with the middle of the range unknown). If the presented statistics was right we would assume that approximately 54000 units were made within a year meaning that approximately 405000 units were made during the production life cycle of F100 assuming 7.5 years production time (Nov 1998 - Apr 2006, the later date is not accurate, just an estimation). This would mean that serial numbers with 24xxxxx may exist. Does anybody meet with a serial number starting with 24xxxxx?

After some additional search I have found the lowest serial number starting with 2015220 (my camera SN) and the highest one 2343442 (found on ebay).

Do you have an F100 and do you know when was it purchesed as a new camera? Please, help and lets see we can get an even clearer picture of the history of this fantastic camera!

I don’t know....I just need someone who could fix my dysfunctional AF selector

I have a perfectly working just 22 years old one. :)
Do you share your serial (exact number is not necessary just something like 2021xxx) and purchase date?

It will be more difficult to get information on F100 serial numbers than say the F6, because the F100 has been out of production for a long time and few examples will be with their original owners now.

I see that Roland Vink is adding Nikon film cameras to his impressive database. You could email him to see what information he currently has.

I thank you for your note on this topic, James. That is a good idea to write him. Of course, I know the site but film cameras have not been listed yet.

Obviously I am looking for such F100 owners who has the original invoice with the date of purchase or the second rare option that they are the original owners as you mentioned.

I saw your information about F100 serial numbers and yours being one of the earlier ones, 2015220.

I don’t know how much you’ve used your F100, have you had any problems with the winding or rewind mechanism?

I heard the rewind fork was upgraded in later models.

I have the option to buy an F100 and don't know if this is going to be an issue.

Thanks
