Calzone, I can appreciate your sentiments on living where you have a source of used equipment to rummage through.
Our last camera store, that catered to the used gear market, closed years ago. They just could not compete with the mega stores that are only
interested in the massed digital, new camera buyers.
Sure do miss the old "mom & pop" camera store where you could go wheel'n deal your way into new to you gear.![]()
Mike,
B&H and Adorama are big stores, especially B&H. I find that they sometimes mis-grade or misprice their gear and bargains force me to buy a lot of gear because the deals are too good to be true. This confusion I believe is due to their big size and are mistakes.
I know this is counterintuitive, but I have learned to mine bargains at theses big stores. Also I enjoy their unconditional return policies so their is absolutely no risk.
Good Luck.
On topic: I found a mint F2AS a few years ago at Adorama that was a real Shelf Queen at a good price, but at home I discovered that the metering was off by two stops, otherwise it was a dream camera. Tried to negociate the price down so I could keep it and get it repaired. Anyways this one got away. Oh-well. This camera still haunts me.
Shot the F2 with DE-1 yesterday. I found it to be so comfortable, and I felt like I was back in art school in the 70's because a F2 was my first camera. I can say because of this a F2 is my best handling camera and now I'm spoiled by the familure comfort.

I can vouch for Cal's F2... very nice camera.

Thanks John. Shooting was great yesterday. Really nice light.

Well, Cal bought a black F2 so I took his silver F2 off his hands. Next will be a 45mm f/2.8p lens to go with it.

F2 with DE-1 update: So John above took the chrome F2 with DE-1 off my hands. What a cool camera because its an early one with slotted screws everywhere instead of phillips, has a different door latch, and has a different tip on the rewind knob.
I found a black F2 with DE-1 at Adorama. I kinda had wishful thinking and had to check out a vague listing that did not specify black or chrome or which finder that simply stated F2, E condition $599.00. The black F2 seemed to be a shelf queen in remarkable condition, but the forensics suggest it was a copy stand camera because of this funky screen that it came with and some wear on the backplate.
At the same time I found a silver 45/2.8P that I bought for $399.00 with silver lens cap, but no hood.
What a pretty-pretty camera. The 45/2.8P displays mucho contrast in the VF'er and also has this short 45 degree focus throw that makes for quick handling. I find the profound contrast is a great aid to focusing. I'm in love with this rig.

Reading this thread prompted me to have a look on eBay, and it seems like most of the F2T's ever made are on there at the moment! Well at least 6 of them. Wonder why so many are for sale right now?

I also noticed the abundant supply, but the prices are mighty steep.

Can't wait to get my 45mm f/2.8 in the mail. Cal, this is the first time I think we ever agreed on a camera choice.

A F2 was my first camera. On top of that I had that F2 in art school. Getting another F2 is for me a major regression to the old days. It just seems so familiar.
Anyways you are largely responsible for looking at glass for a different kind of speed: fast focus throw. Already I'm spoiled by the handling.
Also the small size is appealing. Glad you got a 45/2.8P for that early F2. Its a sweet looking rig being all chrome. Hope you got that boss silver lens cap to go with it.
I'll say it again. A F2 is the sexiest camera Nikon ever built.

As much as I like my Nikon's, F, F2, F5, F100, I think the Leicaflex I have is even better. The viewfinder is a delight. The only problem with them is the price of R lenses which has steadily increased in the last few years. Fortunately I had lenses from a while back which I have converted back to R mount.
Thanks to Mike (mynikonf2) I've decided to keep my early F2 though. It's a '72 in near enough new condition and had the Sover treatment.

Most of all, they're addicting!
Quite interesting to see how the rubber turned into some sort of "snake skin"...

Maybe some of them are not real F2T's? Buyer beware.
