I made a mistake today...
Periodically I check my gear for battery condition, check the meter accuracy and exercise each a little. So I had some fun with a couple of them and then... I picked up my old photo bag which stores the Nikkormat FTn and my chrome F2. And that was my mistake...
I can't put it down this evening. Battery and meter are perfect. Film loaded and ready to go. But I have nowhere to go for the next few days. Too many things at home to catch up on. My hands are itching to shoot the F2!
So tonight I shall think of F2 accessories. A vintage strap? A top portion to the eveready case bottom half? How about a vintage period correct shoulder bag?
This is going to take me awhile just when I cannot afford the time luxury. Yikes!

May I suggest the same outfit of the first post on the thread?
Nikon F2 + Nikon soft release + Nikkor normal lens you prefer + Nikon A2 warming filter (if you use colour) + correct Nikon hood for the lens + Ch-1 or Cf-1 half case + vintage colourful Nikon strap.
You can't fail with this gear!

Hey, Dave! Forgot you had an F2--I just ordered a "K" screen for mine-- it had a "P" screen installed with the grid lines and the slanted split prism. Couldn't STAND that thing! Now, with the K installed, I am a MUCH better photog! HaHA!!! Hope you and Linda are doing well. We'll have to get together soon and run some Ektar thru them. Take care!

I always thought the P screen had the 45 degrees split image and the collar, am I mistaken?
However in the F2A I've the screen D (grid) and I find comfortable, I also have a A, a K and a H2 that I use for fast lenses.
System cameras are fun.

Wulfthari--yes, the "P" screen's split image is slanted at 45 degrees and has the microprism collar, and also the grid lines. Maybe for rule of thirds? In any event, the "K" is much easier for me to use...guess it's what I got used to. Nice F1 and 55/.12!

BTW this board is getting too Nikon oriented, perhaps it's better to open a Canon FD pride thread.
That's terrific! The mirror shake in slow motion particularly, I would love to see a video like this one with a vertically travelling shutter like the FM2n at 1/4000s.

Deserved! Used screens for the New F-1 are near unobtainable (unless you merely want a stock AE screen replacement) unless you are willing to pay at least double the going rate of the most expensive F2 screens... 🙂

Sell them in Europe, then - hereabouts, offers for P, S and ultrabright laser screens that don't move tend to be upward of 70€...

The problem is that the screens for F-1N are also changing the metering pattern, unlike the ones for the F2 and the Canon F-1 Old as well(they are worth what the Nikons are worth) so it's normal that they are more valuable for the F-1N users.
On my side I bought two rare screens, an AL and a AK for my F-1N at a reasonable price (40 euros each), but that's a story for another thread.

I received the test roll of my "new" F2A I share the built date with (March 1978)...it's good, besides the foggy light and Superia that is honestly a pretty bad film IMO.
The Arsat N, also known in Soviet times as Helios 81N is a good nifty fifty, I couldn't excite the infamous swirly bokeh so I assume this design is less prone to that feature than the 44 and 77 made by KMZ, still the bokeh is sometimes very dreamy and pleasant IMO:

Will there ever be a Canon 5D or Nikon D800 appreciation thread?
I keep going through these F3, F2, etc threads, coveting these old film SLRs. The designs of which i didn't appreciate (nearly as much) until recently. I've been buying them, too, and i love the feel of them. The sounds.... I can't imagine ever feeling that way about a digital, though.

Hard to tell, as they've gone over the top regarding automation. Will people ever covet and hoard old (industrial) robots like they used to collect tools?
