Regarding the Flickr notes: with longer lenses such as my old 300/4.5 or 500/8 reflex mirror, even when using the lens tripod collar, a cable release, and the mirror locked up, I’d still get vibrations from the actual releasing of the shutter. Even though the lens is on a big sturdy tripod, the camera is hanging out there - a moment arm amplifying any vibration.

The only solution I found was low-tech: a flat surface and a few bunched-up towels under the lens and camera body (obviously this can’t be used in all circumstances).

Thanks to you and Larry. I have been very lucky that day indeed, because I had the exact good focal length mounted on the F2 for this other high angle view "decisive moment" with geometrical street stairs and a blurry bike in motion.
Well - if that proofs anything, it's that you can, by total chance, pay an honest tribute to HCB with the best Japanese SLR and a focal length he quite never used. The heresy, the heresy...

<snip>.............. I might have difficulty resisting an F2 Titan, if i were in Toyko

I wasn't even in Tokyo and I found this hard to resist last week. Impossible, as it turned out.

Was it expensive? Well, no, of course not, it was less than the going price for a nice Contax T3, so I decided that it must not be expensive, and it needed to come see me. That's how things work in my head, at any rate.
Will join my F2AS which I kept in preference to my F6, because an F2 is a perfect thing, because, like all perfect things, whether home, car, camera or girlfriend, it has everything you need and nothing you don't.

Finally equipped for that solo dogsled trip to the North Pole, or my name isn't Naomi Uemura.
Life's too short to be cluttered up with plastic things.

Good for you Larry. That is the height of Nikon beauty IMO!

Wonderful, Larry. I have a preference for the version of the F2T not wearing that Titan name on the front plate but this is nitpicking.

It may need some new mirror, back door grooves and hinge foam strips given its age, even if almost never used. Once done you will enjoy it a lot. I have installed a "R" focusing screen coming from a Nikon F4 in my chrome F2 w/ DE-1 finder, and it's a dream finder.

It sure is personal preference H61. I would only buy the engraved one. I find it discrete and tasteful, not to mention that it doesn't appear on decades of cameras. I think it's very elegant, unlike the large angular LEICA emblazoned on all those cameras since the M4-2.

To script or not to script, that was the question. I did give it some thought and came down on the side of the script, partly because I liked the font, and partly because, yes, it's not been on everything since. If I were being nitpicking, I would have wished that Nikon had never abandoned the original font they used for "Nikon".
Anyway, with regard to the upcoming Z mount "retro" body, the F2 might show the way forward as it has the "just right" amount of dials and buttons. And just toss in the original Nikon script. Not holding my breath:)

Thanks for the tip on the "R" screen. Just looked through my supply and that's one I don't have. As soon as I buy something, I find I need something else to go with it, like a matching handbag:)
All my screens are F2 screens, will and F4 screen just drop in, or needs to be modified? I guess I could look that up, it's been a while since I was accumulating screens.

I agree completely. If this new "retro" Z camera has the Nikon name in the bold italic style of the current logo, they blew it.

To install a Nikon F4 screen in a Nikon F2 body, you just swap the screens frames, i.e. you take apart both a F4 screen unit and a F/F2 screen unit, then you re-install the F4 screen optics in the F/F2 screen frame. A few screws and metal tabs to play with and you're done.
The frames are different, but the optics are identical, and can be retro-fitted inside either frames.
Caveat : you need a Nikon F/F2 screen frame with inscriptions printed in red (most of them are like this). The first series of F/F2 screens frames with inscriptions printed in white or yellow cannot accept the F3 and F4 screens optics.
The F4 screens are noticeably brighter yet still very accurate for critical manual focusing. Their optics are identical to the late "red dot" F3 screens, but at the end of the day the F4 screens are much easier to find, and sell for lower prices, than the "red dot" F3 screens.
The "R" screen is a wonderful mix of the "A" and "E" screens.

Good Morning F 2 friends

I had my F2 serviced by Sover in 2016.
It still is fine, but I have checked his website over the last week and
gotten a "this connection(?) is not private"

Does he have a new Web site, has anyone else seen this warning?

Sover is very active on the F2 group on Facebook, you could ask him there?

His website loads normally for me. If you have your browser set to only connect to https sites, you will get a warning like that if you connect to a site that does not use encryption.

Larry, here is a link to a webpage with some pictured DIY instructions about how to install a Nikon F4 screen in a Nikon F2 (here a F2 w/ DP-12 finder but it's the same way to go, whatever the Nikon F2 finder is) :

http://www.throughthefmount.com/articles_tips_oldmechanics.html

Thanks, I only just now saw this. That’s more information than I had seen before, but the last time I was looking for screen substitution information was probably before 2012 when that was written.
Thanks for your help.

Larry, you're going to have to post a photo of that F2 with your Noct-Nikkor. Dream combination.
One thing to note regarding a brighter screen is that the scattering angle of the F4 screen will not show DOF accurately at apertures wider than f/2.8. This can also make precisely focusing fast lenses difficult, if they are being used at those wide apertures, particularly the superspeed lenses used wide open.

Thanks, Phil. I imagine there will be some trial and error involved. The F2 I recently bought came with an E screen, have installed an F2 “A” screen which I already had and works better for me. I am, and should be, happy with that, but intending to try an F4 screen just to compare.
I’m also always juggling diopters and glasses as well in the mix. I can use a -3 diopter with my glasses on top of my head, or a +0 diopter with my glasses on which is a tiny bit better, but then my Rx changes……
The screens are just another thing in the mix that needs to be calibrated, but the F2 100% vf is always nice regardless:)
