nikon f2a film advance

This is probably a silly question, but here it is..
I'm using a Nikon f2a recently, and when I advance the film, let the advance lever return and want to take another shot I have to nudge the lever forward again, just a little bit, otherwise the release button is locked. It's a bit tricky if I'm taking a number of quick shots.
Is that normal, or am I doing something silly?
The advance itself is incredibly smooth and everything seems to be fine. Only used an fm2 before this camera.

That is not normal if you are winding full-cycle. The Nikon F2 can be wound with one full stroke, or with several short strokes.

- try winding the lever fully until it stops. That should advance the film and make the release ready for the next exposure. If you have to wind it a bit more, might be time for a CLA.

That is a Nikon feature - the advance lever acts as the camera switch/lock. If it engages without pressing the lever onto the body, it may have come loose and should be serviced.

The Nikon F2 advance lever does not act as a release lock, the ring around the release provides that function.

i've just been giving it a whirl... i think i've been babying it. (its borrowed and i'm worried to break it!) when i really give it a strong advance its fine, then i don't i have this problem.

(i think it's because my fm2 i always feel i should be careful with, because its seen so much use.)

Have it fixed nonetheless - something (not the lever lock - Brian is right in that it switches the meter power only on the F2) is worn or loose in there, and might foul up your entire transport gear train over the course of time.
