Nikon F3 Tribute



With the Nikkor 50mm f.1.2 plus snap-on hood. When I bought the camera in 2009, Nikon still produced the lens in limited quantities and it could be ordered through the Nikon US site with a delivery time of 60 to 120 days.
 
Cal, it is not luck only - it is the fact that I have friends that are equally as nutty as I am! We have a very active "trading" system. I find strange items here and Shintaro and my other friends in japan finds things there!!!
My entire cash outlay for the Japan trips cameras/lenses was in the range of $300. A Canon 25f3.5 Ltm and the afore mentioned 135f3.5. The rest was handed to me.OK, I had asked Shintaro to find me a F3HP/MD4 - he found two and the Takahashi at Lumiere handed me another one.
Going through security at Narita (we only travel with carry on) the guy asked if he could look in my shoulder bag. I unzipped it and started to haul out cameras "Oh, I thought they were F3's - I am a Canon F1 guy myself". Long discussion about lenses. film and spare parts followed!
I also shot with Shintaro's ZF Distagon 35f2/Might have to find one of those - very nice lens. About as good a 35f2 as you can lay hands on for a Nikon SLR.

There's a lot of that happening in New York also, but not on your scale.

Recently a locksmith where I work gave me this 8-45mm F1.0 Pentax CCTV lens that he garbage picked for me. I ended up giving it to Tung at the N.Y. Meet-Up who has a Nex-5. Another cool thing is that this lens also came with a B&W 55 close-up filter for that Macro closeness.

Anyways thanks for reminding me that I'm a lucky guy.

BTW I did get a really nice F3 HP with MD-4 for free. My girlfriend gave me her's.

Also know that my two M6's resemble Nikon F3's because they both have TA Rapidwinders, TA Rapidgrips, and dual TA Softies.

Looking to get myself another lens for my F3, currently using a 50mm 2.0 AI'd im looking for sharper results, im looking for something preferably 50mm or wider, maybe a 50mm 1.4 AIS, or a 28mm 1.4 AIS?
 
+1 on the 28 Ai-s (the version with close focus to 0.2m).
It is also a tiny lens, wonderful, to have as an extra in the bag.

If you can find a 28 1.4 AF-D for a nice price (they are not cheap), you probably fall in love. Btw - how are the prices on that one these days - didn't follow closely last years?

28mm f/2.8 AIS ~ $250

im leaning towards the 50mm, because thats pretty much the focal length that i always shoot at, but that 28mm is so tempting.
 
Hi all F3 guys,

I finally couldnt resist to buy a beater F3 with intention to take advantage of all Nikkor manual lensese I'm using with a D60. How would I say? A master piece in Industrial design

the 50/2 is a very good lens too. unsharp results may either indicate a damaged lens, poorly aligned mirror or even user error.

that being said, no reason not to get a 28/2.8 AI-s if you like that focal length.
 
I recently updated my F3P with a Beattie Intenscreen with a split prism. The split prism is kinda oversized and the brightness is eye popping, especially with my Noct-Nikkor.

When I mount a 45/2.8P I can see the light fall off in the corners that will be recorded on the negative.

Also bought an aftermarket grip that was offered in the classifieds that offers familiar ergonomics if you are use to carrying a F3 with a MD-4.

My F3P is now ultimized.

When very talented woodworkers created an item they would intentionally introduce a flaw, because only God could create perfection.

When I look at my F3 I am reminded of this. ( little red button, measly lcd, etc.)

But the rest of the camera is so nice I must over look these issues.
 
When I was in college the F3 and the Leica R4s were the photographic objects of desire (of the moment). Ten years later, I found one in a used camera store in an out of the way corner of Virginia. It was engraved on the bottom "Malachi Pigford" and (in the pre-identity theft era) the fellow's social security number. Malachi's camera is still clicking away a good fifteen years later. Wherever he is I wish him well.

The F3 has an outstanding rep, many people LOVE it.

I am not one of them, it just never appealed to me. Never owned one as a personal camera.

Personally, with loads of Nikon F and F2,
I skipped the the F3 and F4,
going to the F5 and F6.

Being a Leica M user also, i prefer compact Nikon pro one. I tried F4: too chunky for me. Looking at your list, i can guess that your favorit cams are cumbersome ones.
 
I own F, F2s, and F3s. If I had to choose just one line only based on my use of features, reliability, and most important of all, feel: I'd choose the F2.

They're all extremely good. But chrome F2s are what I prefer.
