My new (to me) F6 has the serial number 0006684
0034843 (new stock on shelf at Yodobashi Camera, Shinjuku, March 2015)
0035141 (for ¥271,800, new stock on shelf at Fujiya Camera, Nakano, Tokyo, February 2017)

Used ones can be found for as little as this:

Interesting as mine was new, no idea how long on the shelf of course, in Feb. last year at 34612 so just over 500 in-between.

In Germany it varies (dependant on the distributor) between 1,700€ and 1,900€ for the body, and about 400€ for the MB-40 vertical grip (the D4 is in the 5,700-6,000€ range).
For such a "once in a lifetime" camera, which can be used for 40-50 years (or even more), that is next to nothing, only some Euros p.a..
One of the reasons I will again go for a brand new one.
Then my first F6 (also bought new) will be loaded with colour reversal film on my projects, and the second, new one will be used parallel loaded with BW reversal, BW negative or colour negative film.
Perfect solution.
Cheers, Jan
I indeed realized my plans back in autumn 2015.
I had bought another (my second) brand new F6 with MB-40 vertical grip.
Serial number of that second one is 003502x.
Photography life is so fine with two excellent F6

I took delivery of a new F6 from Amazon Germany this week, serial is 352xx. It seems that we are slowly - if ever - approaching 36.000 units.
The MB-40 grip also seems to be out of stock here in Germany, without any further deliveries expected. Even the Nikon store lists the grip as no longer available.

Dennis, welcome here, and congratulations to your new F6!!
You will not regret the purchase.
I can highly recommend to add the MB-40 vertical/battery grip to the F6.
Perfect ergonomics and perfect power supply with the grip.
Ask Foto Brenner for delivery.
If Brenner cannot deliver, ask Calumet or Foto Mundus.
If that does not work:
B&H Photo in New York has the MB-40 in stock. They ship worldwide.
There is no discontinuation notice on the Nikon global internet page for the MB-40.
Enjoy your F6!

battery grip turns the F6 into a monster that's even bigger than an F5! I really cant see the point. The F5 was big enough and carrying it around all day was hard work. Even my 700 with battery pack is a chore. Nice for the bigger zooms but how many times would you use it? Haven't used my F6 for nearly 2 years. Been shooting an M9P and finally get digital.

Thanks Jan for the kind words and the hints regarding the MB-40!
Currently B&H is on my shopping list for the Meta35 data reader anyways, so I will most likely order a used grip there. I always used battery grips starting with the D200, so this is a must have for me.
It somehow feels strange to spend that much of money for an analogue camera in 2017, but it is for sure worth it. It combines the modern Nikon system (e.g. CLS) with the film world. And it will be an important piece of history of 35mm film.

By the way, did anyone try using rechargeable battery 3.7V CR123A for the Nikon F6? Does it work properly with the camera? And how is the life of the battery?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Bought a "Brand New" f6 off eBay a few weeks ago from a USA seller 100% feedback. When it arrived, it was definitely not new, missing all the original items and looked liked it had been sugar-cookied in lint. The serial #0013439 dated it around 10yrs old and before the firmware update. The seller even tried to hit me up for more money after they had shipped. After a painful exchange peppered with verbal assaults from the seller, eBay intervened and my money was returned. The seller offered to pay return shipping as part of the settlement, but of course, has not.
I bought another F6 off eBay from a Japanese seller, serial#0032537 and it's great. This EX+ F6 is 200% newer than the "brand new" f6, had free shipping and only took about 5 days to arrive.
On that note, I usually try to buy off of forums for equipment, however sometimes eBay is the only option. The last 3 items I purchased off eBay from US (100%) sellers all had issues and were very different than described. Not minor issues, but major things like broken missing parts, complete fabrications and pictures that are different than reality. To me, it seems like the "honor system" for US sellers on eBay has diminished considerably or maybe I just happen to find the bad ones, consistently in a row. On the flip side, Japanese sellers are quite the opposite. Equipment is graded conservatively, priced competitively, arrives faster and is better than expected. Communication has always been prompt as well.

List now updated. Thanks everyone. It paints a pretty clear picture I'd say. My guess is that there are no serial numbers below 0001001. I wonder if we'll reach 0040000...
There was a huge gap between 0002xxx and 0007xxx, so I did more number collecting.
There is still no 0004xxx
1000 cameras we are missing...
I have been holding on for over a dozen years, the 65000 yenner F6 is getting mighty close to The $500 budget I have.
Here is an interesting number:

0011000
And here is a late Mint- example from KEH on ebay:

0035093
Today, I had some spare time on hand.

More relevant data here:
So far we had not seen a F6 with a serial number below 0001000.
Where are the first 1000 produced F6?
They are there: It seems Nikon really started with number 0000001.
Because last weekend on a photographer meeting I talked to a F6 user who has bought his F6 just when it was introduced in late 2004: His F6 has a serial number of 0000918.

battery grip turns the F6 into a monster that's even bigger than an F5! I really cant see the point.
The MB-40 definitely does not turn the F6 into a "monster".
It is just the opposite: The MB-40 improves the ergonomics and capabilities of the F6 very well:
- perfect handling for vertical shots
- perfect ergonomics with optimal buttons for verticel shots
- improved handling and ergonomics even with horizontal shots
- perfect power supply options with the MB-40 (that alone makes it worth every penny)
- improved speed of 8 fps
- perfect flexibility: I can use the MB-40, but I don't must use it in the cases I don't need it.
Haven't used my F6 for nearly 2 years. Been shooting an M9P and finally get digital.
Not using the F6 for about 2 years? That's a crime
This outstanding camera is made to be used, not made for being an unused shelf queen.
If you don't use it, sell it.
There are enough photographers out there who appreciate this unique camera and want one to take lots of photographs with it!
Give it to them.
Or start using your F6 again
Cheers, Jan

Thanks Jan for the kind words and the hints regarding the MB-40!
You are welcome.
Currently B&H is on my shopping list for the Meta35 data reader anyways, so I will most likely order a used grip there. I always used battery grips starting with the D200, so this is a must have for me.
I definitely recommend to add the MB-40 to the F6. You will not regret it to have that additional option.
The Meta 35 is nice. I own one, too.
It somehow feels strange to spend that much of money for an analogue camera in 2017, but it is for sure worth it. It combines the modern Nikon system (e.g. CLS) with the film world. And it will be an important piece of history of 35mm film.
That is not strange at all, because:
1. Film is starting a revival.
2. The F6 is the best designed 35mm SLR ever.
3. The F6 is worth every penny bought brand new.
4. With a brand new F6 you have a "once in a lifetime" camera. If you take at least a bit care of it, it will serve you very well for the next 30, 35, 40 or maybe even more years.
A camera with such a lifespan for such a relative low price delivers an outstanding price-performance ratio. It is indeed a very cheap camera considering the outstanding value you get.
Cheers, Jan
