Nikon F6 ... time to move?

I think you have to go with what you really want. Life is to short otherwise. I recently pushed the button on a Ti M6. Certainly didn't NEED any more coverage in 35mm film arena. But I regret selling my previous M6 and it is happily sitting here on my desk at work and it makes me happy. Go with your heart and that seems to be F6.
 
Like all us poor afflicted (gas) sods here I go through fazes of wanting various cameras ... a black paint MP was one that cycled in and out of my conscious mind but having made the decision to have one M mount RF body only, it had to be my M2. I seem to be more an SLR shooter so a black paint MP would be a very expensive waste!

I have never not wanted an F6 for some reason and though I aknowledge that the F5 and F100 will provide 95% of the same photographic opportunities they may not stop me lusting after the F6 as my SLR holy grail.

Life's too short ... I'm going to PM Jonmanjiro later and see what I have to do to get the one he spotted in Tokyo the other day for just over $1000.00 AUD!
 
Is it GAS though? GAS to me is generally the purchase that has no logic just desire. Keith's situation seems to be a smart decision to be able to utilise his Nikon lenses on both platforms. I look at my M6 purchase to be the same with being able to use same quality M lenses on digital/film. GAS for me would be an S2 will no logical use for it🙂

I do think it's absurd to expect to shoot film with all that iTTL Commander Mode Nikon Creative Flash BS... it may well work fine but without digital to test, there is no way in Hades that I'd trust it light a shoot without Polaroids or digitals to proof....

What was that country song by Kenny Chesney or someone like that about missing all those opportunities, like skinny-dipping with the girl you knew but you didn't...giving your Mom a hug but you didn't...telling your brother that you loved him but didn't...? Shoulda, coulda, but didn't is a bad thing when viewed from down the road a bit.

If I could have a black paint MP, I woulda done it long ago. Or an M9-P black paint. Or...well, at least I got a black FTn...😡

If I was a very wealthy man I'd buy a black paint MP and deliver it to you personally Dave ... and we could discuss the world over a beer or two! 🙂
 
The F6 has been sellng cheap in Japan recently, some stores are still selling new ones at 300k yen, but a few months ago one store cleared all of theirs out at 125k yen (not bad for new in the box).

Personally, I really prefer my old F. I shoot pretty much only Tri-X, and I don't have any AF lenses. I got rid of my digital stuff when my outlook changed to "less is more". I have come across a good deal on a black FM3A, which I prefer to the AF Nikon F cameras, but putting it side by side with my old F (it's an black paint model with an eye level finder), I simply don't like it as much.

Perhaps i'll give the F100 a try, a local shop has one for sale for 8000 yen, I suppose I could sell it for at least that much if I don't like it.

I agree. The F100 is an excellent camera, and it's a amazing value.

Your right there Keith, life is most definitely too short, so the best of luck with securing that F6. You will not regret it. Believe me once you have caressed those gorgeous curves, you will be smitten. 🙂
 
For me if i'll ever go back to slr, F6 is the only way. The last film camera Nikon built and probably the best. I've been thinking about the F6 on and off. Maybe just maybe the day will come, a 24-70 2.8 will definitely go with it.

I would seriously consider a F6 if I was locked-in to the Nikon system and desired a film camera. I would also update the F6 with the accessory "J" screen (center microprism) which I already added to my D700 & D3.

I don't have any Nikon G lenses and have no plans to ever go that direction. I prefer my manual focus Nikkors. I am happy with my F3's and still have a FM3A with a Beattie screen.

The F100 may be almost as good for much less money but almost will never be best. Given my predisposition for primes and the variety I already have, and needing to change film at regular intervals, I would (and have in the past) carry a pair of F100's with my two most anticipated lenses. A few alternate lenses and more film in a small shoulder bag or waist bag.

Enjoy the F6! One thing, it's about the same size as the D700, weighs about the same, but the grip is a little different. I prefer the F6's to the D700.
