Ive never had one open, hypothetically speaking, can the flash contact be removed so the prism has no evidence that there was a flash contact there? like an olympus? what holds that contact block on there? Ive never had one apart. Thanks

It looks as if it could come off. I haven't opened it up. I wonder if there's lesther under there? I doubt it. I think the FM would look good without it, and then a CameraLeather treatment? Snakeskin?

My exploded view only shows the complete top removed from the camera with the shoe still attached. It's probably attached from the inside. Be advised there is a micro-switch built into the shoe.

I would think I should just leave the circuit open as if there were no flash attached no?

The wiring connects the PC to the hot shoe so yes, it's just an open circuit. insulate the ends if you're going to tuck them inside.
The shoe is indeed removed from the inside so the cover has to come off.
As above re: the holes, one large, four small uns.

Filling the holes without some backing material may be tricky, the metal of the cover is too thin to give much support. Take the cover off & you can use a bit of fiberglass cloth or thin brass/aluminum
If you want a bit of FG cloth PM me. I've used it with regular slow cure epoxy & it works fine.
