The only camera that I own that I trust to take extreme abuse/shock/drops and still work perfectly are my Nikonos V. I know because I unintentionally tested that! If you really want a bombproof camera that has a great lens and is also waterproof, the Nikonos V is the answer...

The repair was performed in June 2017. As of today all three models are still listed as supported on Nikon's website.
 
Greg, you are probably correct. After all it's been nearly 40 years since I handled an F3P. But the cameras sent to us to evaluate were early models from Nikon Professional Services so it's conceivable that changes were made before the camera was marketed.
