Nikon F's are like peanuts

Hello Joerg. Two voices better than one?

I have a Nakaya Portable Cigar in Midori, and an Araishu Cigar on order.

One chrome F and a standard (non-HP) F3 are quite enough Nikon cameras for me. Heck, these two cameras don't even cost me as much as a Summaron 35 2.8 in LTM. I also found a really good condition Nippon Kogaku brown leather case to fit the F into. Now all I'm missing is the eyepiece, which is the same as the F3's. B&H sell a new replacement part for less than $20.

As for pens, I've basically stuck to the mainstream American pens - Parker primarily. A big red Duofold from approx 1926 which I had John Mottishaw overhaul and straighten the bent tines on the nib. Heck, even that pen cost more than both of my Nikon cameras. For a while I went on an English pen kick, and got a few Onoto plunger fillers (from about 1919). Oh, I almost forgot my metal pen phase, with silver overlay Watermans, a Columbus safety pen in 18K rolled gold, Parker 75 sterling silver (a few), Montblanc Ramses (vermeil with lapus lazuli cap). I can't keep going on! I had to stop.
 
I have only one black F2 with standard prism and a standard F3 and a range of lenses from 24mm to 105mm I like Nikon cameras. :)
 
Its the camera that started me on a 40 year photogrsphic career.

My seventh grade teacher brought his nikon f to class one day to show us. I can still see it sitting in its aluminum case with that beautiful pentaprism finder. From that day forward I was a photographer.

Okay, I have a question for all you Nikon F guys -- I'm considering buying one (I've had three over the past 34 years, and of various incarnations), and I'm not sure which standard lens would be the best. Wouldn't matter to me whether it's AI or non-AI ...I just want the lens that has the best optical quality wide open or very close to wide open.

So if you had a choice between the 50/1.2, 50/1.4, 50/2, any of the Micros, or a 55/1.2 or even a 58, which would be your choice?
 
My wife has two cousins in Davis, as well (they grew up in Harvard, MA). Yes!!! We will definitely meet. You are hereby invited to come over so we can geek out on cameras and pens.

I have other pens, all wonderful, but as we know, the Nakaya (the simple models) are in another world. If the clips came in a silver or rhodium, I'd get a writer, as I am not a gold person. You know, you need a second nakaya.:rolleyes:

Thanks Bob, i am looking forward to meeting you.
BTW my writer has a rhodium plated clip :D, do not like the gold either. The rhodium/silver goes well with the dual tone nib.
And sure I will succumb to a second Nakaya sometime.....resistance is futile.
