Nikon going out of the film camera business

Now that we've got that figured out.....

My wife was in Shanghai last month on business. She brought along my Canon G1. Everywhere she went there were street peddlers offering to sell her a memory card.

I was in Beijing in March 2002, and nobody was surprised to see my camera was digital. It seemed like everybody had one. Beijing is a pretty big city, though.

And hech, where do you think they are MAKING all these digital P&S's anyway?

Xiamen, Guangdong, Shenzhen, Dongguan, Guangzhou and Huizhou, along with Tianjin province. I try to keep up with the trades.

Why are you doing currency conversions? They would have hedged against currency fluctuations depending on where they are selling and producing.

You've both figured out what Nikon knew - cheap film cameras don't make sense anymore. Bye, bye film P&Ss and Prosumer SLRs.

Most of the decline is due to digital. Some may actually be due to marekt shifts to lower-cost competitors such as disposables etc.

At the moment I'm working here managing the internet side of the press center. In 2000 most of the PJs used film in 2001 some and in 2002 there was one with two Leicas shoting celebs in the VIP lounge. Since then I've seen only one guy shooting film.

But I don't care, I have all the film cameras I want except a Leica M or a ZI, haven't made up my mind yet.

I have Norton strapped on real tight here. If it tells me there is an Active X trying to get in and it's not from a site I am cool with - it doesn't get in.

Viruses are bad - real bad.

Been there, done that.

I'm not paranoid about this. When I do a MS update I get the same warning but I override it.

But I don't know where Socke's link is coming from so I'm not willing to override the warning. 😱
