Hi,

Anybody knows if older manual Nikon lenses mount on a modern digital Nikon SLR (D7100)? I have two lenses (28mm/f2.8 and 85mm/f2) which were used on a Nikon film SLR (FG). I want to give them away to a friend who is using a D7100.

Compatibility depends upon the lens series and the specific Nikon body you want to work with. See:
and the more recent page:
for more complete information on this topic.

They mount. But they will not meter (that is, your friend will be stuck with trial-and-error metering by live view and/or histogram).

Thanks, Sevo! After checking Godfreys links I realize my description of the lenses wasn't very detailed and probably misleading. Sorry about that. Both lenses are actually AI. According to the Nikon website, the D7100 can do metering with AI lenses.

That's wrong I think. The D7100 can meter with AI lenses. Basically if they fit and work with an FG they will fit and work with a D7100.

Nikon AI and AIS lenses should work fine on a D7100. that's what I use...althought A, and M, modes only. No P or S.

The D7100 manual can be easily downloaded from the Nikon web site, under "Service & Support". Lens compatibility is thoroughly detailed on page 295.
