Yep, send it to Gandy. His repair tech resurrected my Nikon M, which was a basket case when I bought it (stuck shutter, cloudy lens, etc.). It came back looking like new and operates great.
I think he charged me $300.00 for the CLA.

So now after the S3 2000 you bought a Nikon S ? Most of them have flaky shutter curtains (curtains needs to be replaced with new ones). Is yours so ?

Based on looks alone an S3 or SP beats the S2 every time.
Especially brassy black ones.

Agree. Just because the S2 is the last Nikon to have the very same Art-Deco rounded left front plate edge as the 1936 Contax II one. The S2 "black dial" is really something as for brilliant industrial design.
Back to topic : Raid, what's this "Nikon S" in need of a CLA you're talking about ?

The Nikon S is a curious camera. My description on my site says something to the effect that if you put a Leica screw-mount and Contax into a box and shook really hard, a Nikon S would fall out.
It borrows from each camera. I've shot with one, and the shooting experience is part Contax and part Leica. The f/2.0 Nikkor is an excellent lens.

I've got an Nikon M, which is virtually identical to the S. Great little camera, but the squinty viewfinder is hard to get used to (especially after using a Leica M-series). I'm constantly debating on whether to keep or sell it. So far, the "keeping it" side has won the argument. At least today.

I believe Essex was a casualty of Hurricane Sandy. A very sad thing. Many cameras and a huge stock of parts lost, so I heard.

I just got three of these from someone here -- none of them fully functioning. One has a really faint RF patch, another has inop slow speeds, and the third has DOA shutter curtains and the RF doesn't work. If I can improve the RF patch on the first by careful cleaning I'll be a happy man, but I'm not counting on it. In any event, it looks like getting the top cover off is not difficult at all.
These are pretty cameras, and as Mr. Gandy writes on his CameraQuest page, they're made of particularly solid materials and thicker plating.

Hi,
I had a S2 and S3 and with a little cleaning the rangefinder does
improves a lot, I did both Myself and they both came out great.
