Do you have someone who would be a good person to send a Nikon S to? It needs a CLA. Is the cost typically $200-$275?
Thanks.

I have never actually shot with any S, to me they are just collectible bricks, the S2 is such a great camera and so cheap, I never saw the point.
I like the modern S3's for their better finders and reliability, but for pure good looks the S2 wins. 🙂
Agree. Just because the S2 is the last Nikon to have the very same Art-Deco rounded left front plate edge as the 1936 Contax II one. The S2 "black dial" is really something as for brilliant industrial design.I like the modern S3's for their better finders and reliability, but for pure good looks the S2 wins. 🙂
So now after the S3 2000 you bought a Nikon S ? Most of them have flaky shutter curtains (curtains needs to be replaced with new ones). Is yours so ?
A fellow on another forum was selling it. It's been sold (to me).
Essex camera?
Stephen Gandy?
I believe Essex was a casualty of Hurricane Sandy. A very sad thing. Many cameras and a huge stock of parts lost, so I heard.
I just got three of these from someone here -- none of them fully functioning. One has a really faint RF patch, another has inop slow speeds, and the third has DOA shutter curtains and the RF doesn't work. If I can improve the RF patch on the first by careful cleaning I'll be a happy man, but I'm not counting on it. In any event, it looks like getting the top cover off is not difficult at all.
These are pretty cameras, and as Mr. Gandy writes on his CameraQuest page, they're made of particularly solid materials and thicker plating.
