I just bought an S2 in ok shape ( a little better than user). The film advance lever doesn't snap back smoothly. Is this something I could clean or lube myself?

My M5s need red dots!
The FAL in my Leicas won't snap back and I don't have a problem with that.
Now, after my own kind of snap, let me add that the FAL in my S2 seems to return to its place after I use it. Have you shot your newly acquired body? I'd be concerned if there were a spacing problem but, to be honest, I don't think there'll be any. After all, there isn't any problem with my M bodies.
Take care and go out with some film in your S2!

I would shoot it first to see if it's a issue.

Usually a matter of grime between the film advance lever and the frames counter cover. A 10 minutes DIY job using a 0.5mm flat screwdriver and an old toothbrush gently soaked in lighter fluid.

I second the Lighter fluid, my S3 didn't return either so a couple of drops
of that and it works like a charm.

My S2 was fully serviced in 2008, but has been seldom used since.
A bit of exercising of the shutter recently had slow return of the winder as a possible problem. Using the camera helped (or may have even fixed) it.
Go through all shutter speeds 10 times each, and you might find a substantial improvement to the winder return and it could only do good for the shutter.
