Well I have listed a very nice Nikon S2 "Black Dial' some days ago here in the Classifieds, at what seems (to me) a very sensible price - that is, about $200 less than what they used to sell for on eBay recently.
And no interested party yet.
Puzzling...

I think it's somewhat the market, and somewhat a pricing issue.
I sold an S2, not black dial, in good but not mint condition (scratches buy not dings) complete with lens for around the same price as yours a couple of months ago. I would have got more on eBay, but I think you have to offer a bit of a bargain to shift items here.

I saw your ad and thought it presented a lovely camera very nicely and offered it at what seemed to me (in my ignorance of things Nikon) to be a supportable price. If I were in the market for another camera system I'd have been tempted. I was tempted anyway though it's the last thing I need (that doesn't always stop me
).
Hang in there: I'm betting someone will "bite".

I sold an S2, not black dial (...)
Paul, "not black dial" makes sense, there is a $100~$150 price gap between "Chrome Dial" and "Black Dial" S2 bodies, so yes the price for a "Black Dial" body only has to +/- fetch the price for a "Chrome Dial" body with standard lens... which is truly the case here.

I'm sure it'll sell, eventually. Like Fred says, these are strange times.
Also, I think being in Europe doesn't help when it comes to Nikon RF kit. There are very few buyers over here, and US buyers can pick and choose and will probably buy within the US unless what you're selling is really special.
Do you have a nice black 5/1.4 you can put with it? That might generate some more interest.

Agree with Fred and James.
Strangely enough, I just received a PM about it. Someone seems to want it.

Well I have been living at 150km distance of four aging nuke reactors for decades but this Nikon S2 just sold to a gentleman. Thanks.
Gabor : warmest thoughts to you and your family. And please forward them to Jon.

I bought a nice black dial last year. If I was starting again, I wouldn't bother with a chrome dial S2 as the black dial is so much better looking. But, I imagine, like most entrants to the Nikon rangefinder system, I started with a chrome dial on grounds of cost and availability. I know the black dial costs a little more, but it has to be among the most attractive of Nikon rangefinders.
Perhaps only a black S2 is prettier.... Dream on!

Nikon s2 local camera store with 50 mm 1.4 lens all shutter speeds and functions look good. Sticker was 1000 I offered 600 waiting to hear back. Fair offer or did I go too high?

I have a Nikon S2 with f2 Nikkor lens in good condition..works great but I think I would prefer a Leica IIIg or M2..I like the Nikon, but its not quite me-I feel a bit uncomfortable using it. Anyone have any idea what I could expect to get for it? Thanks for any advice.

Prices of Nikon rangefinder gear are down. There is a user-grade Nikon SP in the classifieds now for $800. That is a 20 year low. I paid $600 for a nice Nikon S2 about 8 years ago, $795 for an EX+ Nikon S2 Black Dial about 5 years ago. I suspect prices are down 20% from that. For user grade equipment- prices are even lower.
Figure the Digital offerings for Leica have brough prices up on Leica gear, down on RF's that are not Leica mount.
You might post a want-to-trade for the S2.

I recently sold a chrome S2 with 5cm f2 for £350 (US$585).
It's a popular combination, especially for people looking to try out Nikon rangefinders for the first time.

I guess I had seen your sale. I forwarded it to many people I know and who might have been interested. That was a very interesting outfit (I personnaly favor the classic 50/2 over the classic 50/1.4) and the camera was very good looking.I recently sold a chrome S2 with 5cm f2 for £350 (US$585).

It went to France, so if you helped with the sale, many thanks!

Hi James, you may have sold it to me, cause I just bought one set like the one you described. I even bought a 35 VC with it.
So is that you ?

So the world is smaller than we think. Reminds me a nice and true story:
I had acquired a nice Summicron 50mm chrome which I sold for buying a 35 cron many years later...
So here I am about 5 years later at a local (very small village) garage sale, selling some stuff and among that stuff, an nice old Minox spy camera complete kit.
A guy approaches me and asks for the price. eventually he offers me a trade for a nice lens; he does not say what lens, but since he doesn't have it on him he tells me that he will show up in the afternoon with it.
When he comes back, I see him with my ex 50mm Summicron ! I could not resist trading my Minox for it
