I have got (bought relatively cheap) one abused S2. Was so happy on the moment when postman have delivered it, but few minutes later...
Lens is disaster, but ended free. I would like to get some 5cm f1:1.4 in working condition, anyone know any place on the net to look for it? (other than eBay?)
Problem with body are slow speeds (those on lower dial): all speeds act as B. My local repairman does not know what exactly causes such behavior and right now I?m searching for some repair manual of S2. Anyone have it? Or know what to look for (in mechanism)? Body isn't in perfect condition and I don't think it is worth of sending it for repair out of middle Europe.
The second problem is X synch - part of frame is blank, about 15% of frame. Although I don't intend to shoot with that Nikon using flash light, it wouldn't be bad to have it in working condition. Can anyone help me with suggestions?

Tnx,
Janko

The 'Bay is your best bet, though MPEX (Midwest Photo) sometimes has a Nikkor.

Or buy the newer Nokton from Gandy. He's eager to sell right now. Or you could just through a J-8 on it and hope for the best (It works, fairly well)

I don't know of any repair folks in Europe working on 'em.

Make sure your flash delay is set for "X" or "0" (I forget which) as the delay is set manually, depending on the type of flash bulbs you'd have used. :)

Enjoy it.

I had a similar problem with the slow speeds acting like they were on bulb because I reset the shutter speed before I had cocked the shutter. Weird Collector suggested that with the shutter released to set the collar around the shutter release to the R (rewind) position and then back to the A (advance) position. I did this, cocked the shutter, THEN set the main shutter speed dial to 1/30 and then tried the slow speed settings. All was now working as it should. Maybe you could try this and see if it works for you. Posted with the usual disclaimers re damage.

It sounds like the slow speed escapement is hanging up. It has been awhile since I worked on my S2, I think you have to remove the focus mount, remove the baffle on the bottom inside of the lens throat and then there are a couple screws in the bottom to remove to get the slow speed out. Or, with the focus mount of you can see the slow speed and you can try a little lighter fluid to see if you can get it to work. On my S2, the problem was the shaft that runs from the slow speed up to the speed cam, it was binding and the slow speeds would only work if the speed dial was set slightly off of the detent (I would set the high speed dial so that it would not drop down into the slow speed setting). I had to take the top of the camera off and clean out spider nests and a little corrosion on the shaft, now it works like a charm.
