Hi everyone,

I just recently bought a nikon S3 2000 black from a friend but have been hunting high and low on where to buy lenses... I chanced upon this website in London Greys of westminster online site but the lenses were damn expensive... Can anyone here point me in the right direction? I'm actually looking for a 35mm f1.8 and of course a 21mm f4.

Thanks so much for your help in advance... And yes it's my first RF camera and all my cameras are nikon so if I could get a nikon lens or maybe a CZ lens that fits my cam, that will be great!!!

Even here across the pond, the 35mmf1.8 is expensive the 21mm as well. I had great
luck on ebay you just have to wait for one. For a 21mm you could look at a Voigtlander
21mmf4, I have the 25mmf4 and there really nice. There's no CZ for them I wish there
were I'd buy them.

If you're in the UK, there aren't that many places to look for Nikon RF lenses. Grays are pricey but their stuff is very good, in my experience.

You can also try...

Peter Loy, who's pretty reliable. His stock tends to be more used than mint and less expensive.
Vintage and Classic Camera Excellent quality and service.
Mr Cad I'd advise against buying mail order but worth a visit.

Obviously, there's no guarantee what any of the above will have in stock at any time.

I have only the 50/1,4 Millenium and a CV 21/4 in S mount. These two lenses are sufficient for now. The cost of a Nikkor 35/1.8 is high. Maybe a Nikkor 35/2.5 will do.

Thanks guys for some feedback... I don't live in the UK but live in Singapore... I spend 6mths in a year in the UK for work and back in Singapore for the other 6. Maybe you have some Japanese sites? I tried to search in google but to no avail...

I've acquired most of my Nikon RF equipment here in the RFF Classifieds. Lower prices, fewer bum deals. Don't know where you'll find the 21, though.

You are looking for perhaps the two most expensive lenses, the 21 Nikkor in addition is very rare by number made.

The 3.5 cm f/1.8 is a stellar lens, but it comes with a price tag to match. If I recall correctly only about 8,000 of these were made during the time Nikon manufactured the rangefinder system. That said it is well worth waiting for and saving up for.

The CV 21mm is a worthy alternative for the 2.1 cm Nikkor and will cost you only a fraction of the price. If you prefer Nikkor lenses, you could also check out the 2.5 cm f/4 Nikkor. You only lose a little bit on the wide end, but it is a much more affordable lens than the 2.1 cm Nikkor and is really small, it hardly adds bulk to your camera body. Also keep in mind that anything wider than 35mm requires a seperate flash mounted viewfinder. If you go for the 2.1 cm or 2.5 cm Nikkor, try and get a lens that comes with the dedicated viewfinder.

There were only a few hundred Nikkor 2.1cm lenses made in rangefinder mount. The price is way, way beyond user -- in the many multiple thousands of dollars, and they seldom change hands. The Nikkor 3.5cm F1.8 is generally cheaper than its Leica alternatives and is excellent glass. The Nikkor 3.5/2.5 is much more affordable and of excellent quality ... but sometimes you do want that extra stop of speed.

The Nikkor 2.5cm F4 lens has a very 1950s look about it -- I haven't owned one, but the example images I've seen all show deep vignetting and very low contrast.

The CV 21/4 in RF mount is very affordable and can handle everything but extreme backlighting. The CV 25/4 is of similar quality. Both come with modern finders.

The 1950s vintage Contax 21/4.5 is optically excellent but very heady chrome and glass and also not cheap.

From what I've seen on the RFF forums, Japan is probably the best place to look for classic Nikon RF lenses. Many stores in Tokyo.

Also, with a Nikon S3, don't overlook the Nikkor 2.8/2.5 ... it is easily framed without an external finder, vignettes slightly but otherwise has fabulous pictoral quality ... excellent rendering of low to mid-contrast, and exquisitely sharp. A very good companion alongside the world-class 50mm that comes with the S3-2000.
