HI there

First time I post here, but have research this forum many times and have learnt a great deal.
Very excited about my new arrival and hoped to get your opinions and general thought, mostly on the originality of this camera which seems in terrific condition for the age.

Congrats! It looks fully original to me, right down to the correct colours on the shutter speed dial, and the F-type film advance lever and frame counter cover with six concentric rings. The shutter curtains should be titanium, not cloth. Load up some film and start shooting!

Some were just well looked after, this is mine similar condition, I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine, not babied just used as intended.
Looks spot on to me, no concerns.

BTW noting the S3 "Olympic" was an edition of 2,000 don't be concerned at your serial they have been verified higher than that indicating gaps in the numbering.
Looks like some haze in your finder, easily cleaned if it bothers you.

Drool, Drool

I've noticed the S3 Olympic prices are pretty close to the Black S3 2002 kits
Which makes me wonder why buy the reissue, if you can have the classic, w titanium shutter
For equivalent price

Yeah, I've noticed the same. I would love a Nikon RF but would also much, much prefer titanium curtains.

Most of the ones I've seen have been in very good, hardly used, condition. Not that surprising really, as the SLR era was well under way by the time these got released in September 1965, and most went to collectors rather than shooters. I also remember Fred saying that they still could be purchased new in the 1980s.

Not sure there would be many Nikon RF collectors back then, prices for the s3 olympic are very close to the reissue now mine was a bit cheaper because it came without the lens. Imagine the price if they were Leicas and only 2000 had been made!

The S3 was never very popular, that's why the reissue seemed so odd to collectors. There were many collectors "back then," that was the golden age, so to speak of Nikon collecting, books, society formed, lots of shows, prices got totally out of control by the '90s.

Now prices are again much lower, a good deal for collectors.

As a collector -- hate that self timer! :D

you probably wont like the wind-on lever either, don't worry i've got both the originals safely stored away! on the other hand i have a broken nikon f apollo with lots of missing bits!;)

Apollo lever? I had Apollo levers on my two Nikon SP 2005s for a while. The lever protruding out the back of the camera kept catching on my shirt (overlap where the buttons attach) and ended up being quite annoying, so I put the original lever back on.

All the levers stick out I just feel the Apollo lever is much more user friendly.

Babaky,
Your camera is very nice , with the original lens also.
I think the haze someone mentioned is reflection of the bubble wrap
The camera is sitting on ,
I have one , however it is worn on the black paint finish .
Shoot with it , they are very nice cameras.

THANK YOU ALL FOR THE COMMENTS;
Very reassuring

Not seeing the OP's pics...

What is OP picture?? sorry if it is a stupid question, which it probably is.

Thanks. There is much to be said for a user camera. I had originally searched for a cheaper user camera, but could not find one with a lens or one that was reasonably priced. I would feel much more at ease using a non pristine camera. I certainly will shoot with this camera but with care. I have an Sp user and an M3 which i will continue to use as daily cameras.

OP = Original Poster = babaky. The pics you posted of your S3 are nolonger visible. Perhaps a broken link? I don't post many pics myself, so I couldn't say what the cause might be.

I tried to upload them again, but it says there are too many characters in my message???
The best I can do is a link to the dropbox images.
If anyone knows what I am doing wrong let me know please.
