Nikon Scanner Position

Hi,

Just reading up on giving Nikon Coolscans a cleaning and came across these walk-throughs here and here.

Based on the position of the mirror, they recommend storing/scanning with the unit on its side to minimize dust accumulation. Do you guys do this? Any problems with internal dust? Does it matter which side and are there any other problems that side-positioning can cause?

I had the 4000ED in Beijing for almost 2 years, sitting upright and never covered it (Beijing outside of winter is very dusty). I did pull it apart to clean the mirror once I left and found almost nothing to speak of on the mirror to clean. Since then, I just put an old nylon printer dust-cover over both my 9000ED and 4000ED when Im not using it and keep the 4000ED upright. Still no problems
