Nikon SP 2005

I have just seen add on the forum for SP 2005, so sorry to ask but, apart from only 2500 of sp2005 LE were made, what makes this camera so expencive. Are they more of a collectibles or just good camera to have.

I think it's a combo, like the Leica MP, it's expensive because collectors like them, and also they're probably very good cameras. I have a Nikon S2, build quality is not really any worse than my M3, and the range finder patch in good light is probably better. Although in low light, the M3 is better.

There is also the excellent 3.5cm f/1.8 lens to consider that is part of the kit (a multi-coated version of the vintage 3.5cm).

Its a great camera and the 35/1.8 is a wonderful lens. The only thing that would make it a better camera is a cheaper price. For some it is the holy grail.

BTW vintage SP's especially black paint versions are mucho expensive. Also there was a great thread on comparing the old vintage single coated version of the 35/1.8 and the limited modern version that is multicoated.

For some it is a dream camera. At the NYC Meet-Up John brought his black paint 2005 SP with 35/1.8. What a camera!!! Bombproof build quality.

It's expensive because of the cost of hand-building a precision camera in limited numbers. Nikon reportedly sold these at a signficant loss. It was more a labor of love and nod to the company's tradition.

Japan Market Price 690,000 Yen which is about 8400 US or 6500 EUR. Wow

Bit out of my budget, think I will stay on my Voightlander and Xpan II. Still I wouldnt mind having one. Nice peace. I never saw or noticed this one before.

Seeing one in real life is an experience. Retro styling, bombproof old school overbuilt quality and durability, and just plain cool.
