Hi all,
I've been using the Nikonscan software with my Coolscan V since buying it. I've heard a lot of praises for Vuescan on this site. Is Nikonscan a useless free program or can you get professional quality scans from using it properly?
Does anyone have any tips on using Nikonscan more effectively?

Nikonscan's great, I use it. Wonderful for Fuji's color negs and slide films, wonderful for Kodachrome (issues with Ice/Kodachrome sometimes), wonderful for C22, C41 (color & B&W), E4, E6...I've even scanned some pre-WWII Anscochrome with it (my mother processed it at home).
But it's not as good as Vuescan for B&W silver film. Vuescan doesn't suffer Nikonscan's excess silver grain and popcorn grain.
Nikonscan's more user friendly, has fewer controls. I don't think that makes it inferior in any way.
