Unlike where I come from I see that it's quite usual to post pictures of children on the internet. Not that this thread has too many in that respect, but since most of my portraits are of children I was wondering. The norm in Norway is that pictures of children, at least those that clearly can be used to identify a child are not recommended. Children can't defend themselves if the pictures are abused in some way (difficult for anybody really). This is not a rant, or meant to direct critisism to anyone, just a thought.

Wonderful photos.. all, so I don't want to get overly off topic, but I have posted a couple photos of my daughters. My wife has untold numbers on her Facebook account.

If there is no way of locating the child in the photo, then what abuse might the posting encourage?

Exactly, as I said "...at least those that clearly can be used to identify a child are not recommended". As long as its not a specific portrait, no problems. I'm not saying Norwegian press ethics (which our society tries to instill on the casual net user) in this matter or any other are superior to others, I'm just saying its rather strange seen with our (or at least my) eyes.

Back to topic: And in general. I much prefer available light portraits to studio or articially lighted portraits. Much more character. if there are no shadows, either here or there, then the picture looks flat and constucted. Fine for adverts and such but not much of a portrait, really. Portrait in the sense that it's window the the soul.

I'd love to add an image or two up here. How do you add them so they show up on this page?

If you already upload the picture to your gallery (here at RFF)
just go to your picture and right click and copy image location
it will end with .jpg

Then click the image button and the pop-up will open
just paste the image location in to that small window

imglink.jpg

If you upload your photo to flickr just click the photo
and again click the "all size" then you'll see the direct location
of the picture in the lower box. (......jpg)

Ok, having browser issues right now, the site won't keep me logged in to add any photos here on-site, so, I'm linking to my Photobucket site. I'm also cheating a bit because this was made with my DSLR, but it still fits the criteria of "Available Light Portraits". This was the morning of a Wine Fest at a 1106 year old town just down the road.... before we left for the Fest. This is my buddy, Sam.
