No love for Pentax?!

I got a Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 5.6 400mm lens yesterday for a bargain price at a thrift store. It's in terrific condition with very clean glass.
I tried it in the backyard today on my Lumix G7 from about 30 ft. slight crop

I have a Spotmatic SP, Spotmatic F and a K1000. Fine cameras with great lenses. Don't know why they don't get more respect from users.

Are not great, just average Japanese. I had a dozen or more bought new in 1965/67+ some SMC later.

At the time I could go into a photo store and look at black & white paper sample books. You just know they are the best to show off the papers.
I tried for years to duplicate them to no avail trying films and developers. Then I moved and a new neighbor who ran a high end wedding business loaned me one of his 2 dozen
leicas. Same batch of Plus X, same developer, same paper, the the photos just popped out on the first roll. Yes they matched the sample books.

So if you do not have access to really good photos and know how they are supposed to look, Pentax looks fine.

I could go on about 25 years in camera club and how most all went over to Leica. They thought the same.

No way would I ever back.

Thanks for reviving this thread!
My son (22) is a college student/ Guitar Center employee/working photographer, and shoots a Canon digital and a Spotmatic F.
He is a very artistic & imaginative photographer. The Pentax I bought him 3 years ago came with a fresh CLA and has been a dead reliable camera for him.
I bought a new H1a in high school, and it was the same for me, the reason we decided on a Spotmatic.
