Hello,

Today I went to a (big) photostore in Ghent Belgium to buy and try some Ilford XP2 super. Disapointment ! The guy from the store told me it is no longer available
in Belgium. He even told that Ilford stopped producing it ! I looked at the
ilfordphoto.com site and it is still in the product list !!

Anyone from the Benelux or elsewhere know more about this ?

I bought a kodak C400N. I hope that is any good...

It is still available locally for me in Canada. I doubt the chap was correct. Btw, I have five or six rolls of it I bought earlier this year, but I don't see myself using it. Give me a PM if you want to take the xp2 off my hands:)

regards, thomas

I have had trouble finding it at some places. My local camera store doesn't stock it, but will get me a few rolls from their other location.

I'm in the US, so I can't speak for Europe, but over here you can still get it mail order from B&H.

Hoi Henk,

Note that it will be difficult to print the Kodak film yourself, unlike the Ilford film, as C400N has an orange base, similar to colour neg. This is supposed to make it easier for automated labs to get a 'slightly-better-than-cr*p' enprint, but interferes with print times on normal b+w paper.

I suspect (hope) that the guy in the shop was just covering up that they were no longer going to stock the product . . . .

The photostore where I used to buy Ilford chemicals doesn't stock anything from them anymore, the drugstore which had FP4, HP5 and XP2 doesn't carry any B/W film anymore.
From what I heard at the photostore the german subsidiary collapsed when Ilford UK was in trouble. So now there is no clear distribution chain here. Bigger, or more interested, companies like Fotoimpex have anything I want from Ilford.
Looks as if they import directly from the UK.

Foto Nivo Schweizer in Amsterdam still has XP2. Not hundreds of rolls but most of the times they have a small stock. An order from BH NYC will deliver to Benelux within 5 days.

Problem solved

Hi,

I phoned the distributor today. No problem with XP2 !

The guy in the store told me nonsence, I will tell him...

I live in Nijmegen and there is a good selection of Ilford (including XP2), Kodak and Fuji b+w film 35mm and 120, plus doka materials, in one shop here (they will also do deals on order over twenty rolls of anything), and a few overpriced rolls of 35mm and 120 in a couple of places elsewhere in the town. Hand developing of b+w is also available (though I do my own) and dip-and-dunk C41 too. Arnhem is the regional capital, 20km North, but has a smaller selection. To see a wider or more complete choice I would have to go to Utrecht or Antwerp. This isn't the reason I live here, but it is convenient !

I can get Ilford XP2 almost everywhere in the Netherlands, even in the small photoshop near my house has them. In Rotterdam there's FOKA professional that has lots of Pro films and a full wall of Ilford films ranging from panf 50 to delta 3200. And the price is decent. In Utrecht there's also a camera shop with quite some film stock. They offer more discount when you buy more units.

When will people stop listening to over-the-counter photo store employees? Or better stop fanning rumors by reporting those conversations here? Seems we have one every couple weeks. Last one was that Kodak stopped making slide film altogether. Not long before that was Tri-X was discontinued...and on and on...

I know the poster means well, but.....

Yep, good point. Will not ever do it again...
The film is indeed available without any problems.

But I've switched to TRI-X which I develop in Ilfosol-S. Beautiful.

Two weeks ago I had a similar "expert" on the other side of the counter in a local photo store. Lunatic... claiming there would be no Ilford anymore.
