I'm sorry that your negatives were not returned. However, in a world where "Merry Christmas" and red ink are offensive, "negatives" were deemed too eponymous. Try shooting slide film and you will have your positives returned. Negatives are no longer allowed.

How about Precision Camera? Sponsor here (see home page) and return negatives.

I think about $12 for 135 color film... And they do return negatives...

forgotten,
Find a camera shop that does processing on their own equipment, or send your film to a professional lab for quality service. Don't buy a Leica M and go to Walgreens to process the film...

indeed. the labs at those big box outlets are very unpredictable and i would avoid them like the plague. support a good lab that does the work right, consistently and understands why one would want the negatives back

In Danville, CA, no negatives returned from CVS, but Walgreens still does their negatives on site. They have to be really washed at home after return for dust and I think smudges caused by the rubber rollers. But at least you can scan and adjust; I say adjust because their chemicals are usually exhausted.
By the way, I have used this guy and he does a great job: no dust, solidly developed with fresh chemicals.

Here is Ektar 100 (120) developed by him and scanned by me. I use ICE always but these were so clean I tried without and they were great:

slides…. i have about a million Kodachrome slides. loved shooting that. just not into it anymore i guess. thanks again.

Obviously I have been out of touch for a while regarding film processing at local stores (Walmart, Walgreens etc) I have been processing my own B+W film and have not touched color (except digital) Now I find out they send color film out, and send back disc ... but no negatives!! This is probably not a shock to most here, but I am upset. I like running my old color negs through scanner using ICE (for Nikon scanner) it cleans them up nicely, and then convert to B+W if I wish. So now I can stop dreaming of buying a nice Leica M6 and having lab keep (or destroy my negs) WTF?!! Don't wanna do B+W film all the time. And occasionally its nice to have someone else develop film for ya. So.... whats the incentive to buy a nice camera/lens for film when they are just slowly pecking away at my life?! Sucks.
(no, I don't want to process color on my own) I quickly glanced at the darkroom forum here and noticed there are mail-in-labs i can send to?
Anyway....:bang:
Hey,
I saw a photo of the "San Carlos Art and Wine Fest" from you, so I assume you are in the area (I live in San Carlos). If true, you can have color negatives developed at
Walgreens, RALSTON AVE, Belmont (they still do C41 for now)
Or, if you don't mind the drive, Henry's Foto Express in San Jose is great. He does C41, E6 and even B+W (and enlargements if you want). He says his business is doing well due to more students shooting film.
Unfortunately the San Carlos CVS stores stopped. And the Darkroom closed.

I get my colour 35mm developed and scanned at my local Costco (Marina Del Rey, CA)
They do a fantastic job,the scans are good enough for 12 by 18 prints as long as you do not crop the images.
Always get the negatives back (that is so weird not to get them back), and the price is $4.86 including tax. And you get it in an hour!
Mail order I have used thedarkroom.com (ok) and ncps (good) for my 120 colour film.[/QUOTE
Lucky you
My Costco developes film but stoped making disks from negs, so if you want a disk they have to scan each neg separately on flatbed scanner and then make the disk.99 cents a scan per neg .24×99=23.76+cost of disk:bang:

By 'big box' I guess u mean Walgreens.
'My' Costco actually has given me better results for C41 mid rez scans (3100 by 2100) than the pro outlets I have mentioned. They use the same Noritsu scanners but seem to take more care as I hardly ever have to do any dust cleaning.
And, they are about 1/4 of the price. I guess I am lucky as it seems to be rare.
I did have a local Fromex operation that were absolutely fantastic but they went out of business when the landlord tripled their rent.
They handled my 120 film with same day turn around.
Anyway, for anyone in the Los Angeles area, I can not recommend the Costco in Marina Del Rey on Washington Blvd more highly. Under $5 for dev and scan.

I discovered that Walmart pulled that BS like 2 years ago and started a thread... it is getting harder to do C41 these days.
C41 is very easy to process at home, not much different from processing B&W. B&H has the chemistry to do C41 at home http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/con...NDF6ZOkv8ECFc1AMgodJhEALQ&is=REG&Q=&A=details and it ends up costing about $2.00 USD per roll of 135-36 or 120 roll film.
When "Mall Wart" or any retailer keeps/destroys/throws out your negs, they are taking or destroying your rightful property and are therefore breaking the law. Unless they make you sign an agreement allowing them to do so when you drop off your film for processing, that is.
Moral of the story: Develop your own film at home. You will get better results than "Mall Wart" can produce, you will have your negs, you will save money, you will have fun and amaze your friends.

OK, Mr. Dinosaur, where in Long Beach? Slides are a problem I have another place if your source drys up.
Good thread, we all need help, even if it just to not have wives, girl or boy friends (or in my case a son or daughters) call us dinosaurs.

Yes, there are lots of excellent professional mail-in labs you can use.
Have a look here:
http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=137289
It is a list for recommended E6 labs, but most of these labs are also doing C41 development.
Mail-order development is very easy and convenient : Just put your films in the mailbox next to your house, and two, three, four days later (depending on the lab) you have the developed films (and prints) back at your home.
I am using this service for more than 30 years now. I've been always satiesfied.

This advice should not be overlooked.
The main difference is C41 required careful temperature control. This is simple to achieve with inexpensive fish-tank heaters, small repurposed aquariums and a decent quality digital thermometer.
The C41 chemicals are used in bulk globally in non-photographic manufacturing processes. So the chemicals will be availabie at reasonable prices for a long time.

i gave up on color film a while ago already. Last batches of dev were a crapshoot, one roll of e100GX from Rio got lost, several rolls were damaged, most had drying marks...
I know though some nutcases (positively ment) who do their own color dev

I feel the OP's pain. Not just for missing negatives, but in general. I won't go into the horrid details, but suffice to say that my last attempt at outsourced C41 processing was a disaster.
So, I have come to the end of my rope handing my (color) film off to anyone else. I would be willing to give C41 a shot at home, but what about proper disposal of these Tetenal kits? Any advice?

Silver content is pretty well gone in processed C41 film. It is a dye image. The silver is already in the fixer and is recycled.

Northern California? I presume north of the SF Bay Area. Here in Santa Clara Valley, Keeble & Schuchat in Palo Alto is a fine B&M camera shop with their own lab.
