Not speaking for Memphis, but...
Bigfoot & Bubba are black chrome. The finish has held up well.
Both have 0.72 finders. I haven't had any trouble focusing my Nikkors, 50/1.4 & 85/2.0 nor my 50/2.0 DR Summicron even at 21 inches with the goggles. Which brings up a theory of mine: Since the M5 and earlier bodies were built to use the Dual Range Summicron and the Summiluxs of the day, the rangefinders are fine.

Hey, Memphis...
Is your M5 black chrome? Or black paint? I thought all M5's were black chrome which just gets dirty looking? Also what serial number is your M5?
Also thinking about talking to Sherry Krauter about upgrading an M5 to a 0.85 finder to use exclusively with fast 50's, 75's and the longer lenses. What do you think?
I can't speak for memphis, too .... But, I use my M5 (black chrome) with the Noctilux at f/1.0 and close distance and have no problems focusing it, same goes for the 90mm Summicron-M at f/2.0. Sure, the 0.85x VF makes life easier (I had the M6TTL 0.85x before) but then the M3 with its 0.91x VF is the best choice for 50mm and 90mm lenses ... (and cheaper than upgrading your M5, my guess)
Cheers,
Gabor

Leica M5 | Voigtländer Nokton 50mm f1.5
And I ordered the Nokton 35mm f1.2...
Excellent setup !!

Keith, memory serves you right ! Your former M5 is in the country of the rising sun, sake and rain

My chrome streetwalker just came back from Essex Camera Repair after a CLA.
Works like a charm.
I have three M5's, two users with CLAs and a beautiful chrome one that had a battery conversion.
I've been thinking about letting the beauty go, however I know that would be a mistake.
Once it is gone, you never get it back.

While I have yet to acquire a Noctilux(I will one day), I have had no apparent trouble with focusing errors with my M5 compared to my Bessa R2 when using fast lenses.
Memphis,
Thanks for your comments.
Was just curious how your M5 was brassing... and do you know if the M5 actually has brass covers?
Yes, the one weak link with the M5 is that you cannot see the meter in the dark, which is when you really need it. But I am working on that...
Gabor,
You are on my 'dislike list' since you seem to flaunt the fact that you have and use a Noctilux! It is just not fair! ;-)
As for Agfapan 25, I had a rather large stash of it, but just recently decided that I was tired of it taking up freezer space and so I organised a portrait/fashion shoot and got rid it. To be honest, I prefer Efke KB25 anyway. We are really fortunate since it seems of late that we been blessed with a good assortment of very low speed B&W emulsions, Efke/ADOX 25, ADOX 20, and Rollei Pan 25, all very wonderful films. Efke KB25 is my shooting film of choice followed by Efke KB400 pushed to 3200, both stand developed in Rodinal 1:100.
Back to the subject at hand...
The M5 is wonderful, usable camera... especially with larger, really fast lenses.

Brass. Definitely brass under the black chrome.
