No Shutter Action with GA645Zi

Hi. I'm brand new to the group, having just bought a used GA645Zi on eBay. But I may not be a member long if I have to return the camera for a refund. It is in reasonable good shape, but after successfully loading a roll of film (advances to frame 1 and all functions work), the shutter does not fire, tfilm does not advance, and all the functions lock up until the camera back is opened and closed again (ruining film). Is this an operator error or a sign of a bad camera.

Lens cap is on, maybe? Try manual mode or A mode? Welcome to RFF, anyway!
