Noctilux Photos

Ok, this is not a personal attack or bashing anything/anyone. Rather a comment on pics - Ned, while I usually like and enjoy your work, it seems that lately you pay more attention to what others say about the lens and not your photos. They seem to be suffering now in quality and quantity. I remember your older work and it was far better. Now Maddoc and other have you trailing way behind. Again, nothing personal, just an observation.
Great photos Maddoc and Dando! Hope Ned will stop worrying about what others say about Noctilux and spend more time using his. If not, I'll be willing to take it off Ned's hands for a while as long as it's free. ;)

What I feared happened: The M8 causes me to be trigger happy, Damn! :)

Nah, the reality is Gabor, Erik and the folks are good, never doubted it :p

Krosya and Roberto, thank you guys a lot !!! :):)

But ... it was Ned who encouraged me all the time to practice and to use this lens as much as I can. Also, my photos are just some lucky shots, Ned has really shown what this lens can do !

Not lucky shots, Gabor. Being in the Zone, that mindset, is the secret, IMO. Luck is not a part of the equation if the photographer isn't in the Zone.

As for me, now is the wedding season and my mind and vision are aimed towards a totally different direction and style... RFF is not the place to show my DSLR wedding stuff but I can assure anyone who cares I'm seriously kicking some serious butt :D

RFF and serious Noctilux shooting will happen somewhere in September when I leave on vacation somewhere in Europe.

This being said, I'm extremely glad this Noctilux thread is alive and doing well. Gabor, post more :D

Ned:

I'm always up for seeing my peer's wedding work.

Cheers,

Cheers,

Riccis,

I'm actively working on PP these days... I'll probably post shots soon. Maybe in the SLR forum?
Of course, your work is great Riccis, as has been noted many times aruond here...

Plus its a great wedding lens. Posted this on another site but here it is again

Breadboy:

I love that second image!

Ned:

I learn and draw a lot of inspiration from other fellow wedding photographers, so definitely share (wherever) once you get some work done... In the spirit of the thread, how about some wedding images shot with the Nocti (on the M8, though)...

Cheers,

Riccis and breadboy, nice shots !!

I've been following this thread since the start, so I should have noticed:eek:

I love Ned's stuff as well! In fact, most of the images in this thread are great 'spokesmen' for the Noctilux. A very versatile lens!

I like the first one, Erik. Nice !

The lens is little on the heavy side but still better to carry then the Nikon D1x with 17 - 55 DX, which I carried around a lot...

Now, is it me, or Maddoc's shots with the Noctilux look very different from Ned's and Eric's? I don't mean composition, but rather the way lens draws. Like 2 different versions of the lens. Or am I seeing things?

I have a Leica (B&W) E60 UVa permanently on my Noctilux. That filter was bought used and shows some cleaning marks. Maybe makes a difference ?

Nah - yours actually look , I guess the best word is - "clearer" or more clear then theirs, so if anything your filter makes things better.

If you rarely use the Noctilux and also frequently use your DSLR then selling the Noctilux and getting a Summilux 50 pre-ASPH would make sense to me, too. I had the chrome E46 version of that Summilux and found it quite heavy for a f/1.4 lens. But it is not a bad lens at all and a little bit similar to the Noctilux. :)

In my case, the Noctilux is "welded" onto my M6TTL and makes a nice travel kit (together with a 6x6 TLR)

Of my 3 posted above - the middle one. The automotive shots were done in daylight conditions with slower film, but I know they aren’t F 1. Do they still exhibit the lens characteristics? I personally think so.

Having paid a few years ago what a new 50 Summicron costs now for the lens – I consider myself lucky. Temptation to sell is tough to fight though.

They're very nice pics.

OK peoples! From here on, please indicate your shutter speed and exposure used on the Noctilux if possible. I think it may make more sense to viewers, Noct users or not.

Er...just a humble request? :p

I have been looking at the 1.2 Hexanon´s as well.

I think its worth giving a shot - it is small, but only compared with the other fast lenses and from what I see it has a more much modern look. It is sharper WO with more "standard" (some might say boring?) OOF look, contrasty, no flaring in reasonable situations, and of course it is slower and a comparative bargain. Overall I am impressed with it, but I don't have a Noctilux so any comparisons are with other's Noct shots.

I had to send mine (50mm) away for focus adjustment for the M digital, I think that would be common. I hope to have it back in a few days...
